I had a patient that presented late to the hospital after 4 days of membrane rupture.
Now, listen to the bäckstory: her water had broken, but labour wasnât progressing, ând this lady stayed bäck with â TBA for over 3 days plus, only seeking professional advice on day 4.
By the time she presented, she had already come down with severe sepsis, ând was being managed, ând also booked for an emergency C-section.
Guess what? C-section was done, but the bäby couldnât make it, even after resuscitation efforts.
Iâm not here to judge, but how can a young lady in this 21st century stay bäck ât home, even after noticing her water had broken?
Please, as a pregnant woman, do well to register for antenatal, antenatal care should be initiated immediately pregnancy is confirmed.
Take your antenatal visits seriously, ând take your routine drugs judiciously.
Be open with your doctor and midwife.
Do not manage any warning signs or symptoms ât home. Always verbalize how you feel. Treat any abnormal change(s) noticed as emergency, do not ignore it.
