“You were never my biological son. We only raised you because we had no child then. But now I have my real son. I will never allow a stranger to share my husband’s inheritance with my blood.”

That night, rain followed me like sorrow.
I stood outside the gate of the mansion with my small bag in my hand while water soaked my body completely.
I could not move.
I could not think.
My head was full of pain.
My real mother was alive.
But she was inside a psychiatric hospital.
A mad woman.
Tears mixed with the rain on my face.
Barrister Kenneth stood beside me under the storm looking guilty.
“Emeka…” he called softly.
I slowly turned toward him.
“Tell me the truth,” I said painfully.
“No more lies.”
The old man sighed deeply.
Then he opened the car door.
“Enter first.”
I entered quietly.
The car moved slowly through the dark road.
For almost ten minutes, nobody spoke.
Only the sound of rain and my painful breathing filled the car.
Then finally…
“What happened to my mother?” I asked.
Barrister Kenneth tightened his fingers on the steering wheel.
“Her name is Adaobi.”
The moment I heard her name, tears entered my eyes again.
Adaobi.
My mother had a name.
A real name.
Not just “that woman.”
“She loved you very much,” he continued softly.
“Then why didn’t she come for me?”
The lawyer swallowed painfully.
“She tried.”
My chest tightened immediately.
“What do you mean?”
The old man’s eyes became heavy with guilt.
“The day your father took you from her… she fought like a wounded lion.”
I closed my eyes slowly.
“Oh God…”
“She came to the mansion many times begging to see you.”
Tears rolled down my face again.
“And?”
“Your mother chased her away every single time.”
Pain exploded inside my chest.
I leaned my head against the car window crying silently.
“How can human beings be this wicked?”
Barrister Kenneth looked broken too.
“There is more.”
Fear entered my body immediately.
More?
“There was an accident,” he said slowly.
“The night Adaobi finally decided to go to court for custody.”
My heartbeat increased.
“She was hit by a truck on her way home.”
Coldness covered my entire body.
“No…”
“She survived,” he continued quickly.
“But she lost a lot of blood.”
Tears kept pouring from my eyes.
“And after that?”
The old man remained silent for few seconds.
Then he whispered softly…
“She never remained the same again.”
My lips started shaking badly.
“What do you mean?”
“She lost her memory sometimes. Some days she would scream your name all night. Other days she would sit quietly talking to herself.”
I covered my mouth and cried harder.
“My God…”
“People started calling her mad.”
Those words destroyed me.
The woman suffered all these years because of me.
While I was living comfortably inside a mansion…
She was suffering alone somewhere.
I suddenly hit my chest painfully.
“This is my fault!”
“No Emeka—”
“Yes!” I cried loudly.
“If my father did not take me away from her—”
“Your father loved you!”
“Then why did he destroy her life?!”
Silence filled the car again.
Barrister Kenneth could not answer that question.
Because even him knew the truth.
What they did was evil.
Suddenly the car stopped.
I looked outside slowly.
A rusty old building stood before us.
The signboard outside looked dirty and old.
SUNRISE PSYCHIATRIC HOME.
My breathing stopped.
“She’s here?” I whispered.
Barrister Kenneth nodded slowly.
Fear entered me immediately.
After twenty-four years…
I was finally about to see my mother.
But not the way I imagined.
We entered the building quietly.
The smell inside nearly made me sick.
Some patients were laughing alone.
Some were shouting.
Some were staring at the walls.
Pain entered my chest again.
A nurse led us through a long passage.
Then suddenly—
A woman’s scream echoed from one room.
“MY SON!”
My heart skipped violently.
The nurse sighed tiredly.
“She does that every night.”
I could no longer breathe properly.
The closer we got to the room, the more my legs became weak.
Then finally…
The nurse opened the door slowly.
I looked inside.
And my heart shattered instantly.
A thin woman sat on the floor hugging herself tightly.
Her hair looked rough.
Her hospital clothes were dirty.
But even inside all that suffering…
She was beautiful.
Very beautiful.
Tears rushed heavily down my face.
My mother.
Adaobi slowly lifted her face.
Her eyes landed on me.
Then suddenly…
She stood up sharply.
Her body started shaking.
The nurse quickly whispered nervously.
“She usually reacts badly to strangers.”
But Adaobi kept staring directly into my eyes.
Like somebody seeing a ghost.
Then slowly…
Tears gathered in her eyes too.
“My son…” she whispered.
My body froze.
Barrister Kenneth looked shocked.
The nurse covered her mouth.
Adaobi took one step toward me.
Then another.
Tears rolled uncontrollably down her cheeks.
“Emeka…”
The moment she called my name…
I broke down completely.
“Mama…” I cried painfully.
She suddenly rushed toward me and held my face tightly with trembling hands.
“My son…”
We both started crying heavily inside that small room.
Twenty-four years of pain.
Twenty-four years of separation.
Twenty-four years of lies.
All pouring out at once.
Then suddenly…
Adaobi’s face changed.
Fear entered her eyes immediately.
She grabbed my shirt tightly.
“Run!” she screamed.
Everybody froze.
“What?” I asked.
She started shaking violently.
“They will kill you like they tried to kill your father!”

“You were never my biological son. We only raised you because we had no child then. But now I have my real son. I will never allow a stranger to share my husband’s inheritance with my blood.”

I could not sleep that night.
How could I?
Everything I believed about my life had scattered like broken glass.
My father was not just my father.
I was his secret.
His hidden shame.
And the woman I called mother for twenty-four years hated me from the beginning.
I sat alone inside my room staring at the old photograph in my hand.
The picture was shaking because my hands would not stop trembling.
I kept looking at the woman carrying me in the photograph.
My real mother.
The woman I had never seen before.
The woman they told me abandoned me.
But now…
I knew somebody lied.
Tears rolled down my face again.
“Who are you?” I whispered painfully to the photograph.
Then suddenly..My room door opened violently.
I stood up immediately in fear.
Three men entered.
Security guards.
Behind them stood my mother.
Cold.
Heartless.
Like somebody without blood flowing inside her body.
“Pack your things,” she said.
My chest tightened.
“What?”
“You heard me.”
Tears gathered in my eyes immediately.
“Mummy please…”
“Stop calling me that!”
Her voice shook the room.
“You lost that right the moment your father died!”
Pain entered my chest again.
I looked at her carefully.
“How can you hate me this much?”
She laughed bitterly.
“Hate you?” she said.
“You destroyed my marriage from the day your father brought you into this house!”
I shook my head slowly.
“I was just a baby…”
“But you reminded me every day that another woman touched my husband!”
Her eyes suddenly became red with anger.
“I endured your face for years because I had no child! But now my real son is here!”
I turned toward Ifeanyi who was standing behind her silently.
He could not even look into my eyes.
That pain alone almost killed me.
“You too?” I asked him weakly.
His lips moved slowly.
“Brother…”
“Please,” I said with tears. “Don’t call me that if you cannot stand for me.”
Silence.
Terrible silence.
One of the guards suddenly grabbed my traveling bag and threw it on the bed.
“Start packing,” he ordered.
I looked at my mother desperately.
“At least let me stay till morning.”
“No.”
“Please…”
“No!”
I fell on my knees immediately.
Tears poured heavily from my eyes.
“Mummy I have nowhere to go.”
She looked away coldly.
“That is not my problem.”
“I grew up in this house!”
“And now you will grow up outside it.”
My chest felt like somebody was tearing it open.
I slowly packed my few clothes with shaking hands.
Every corner of that room carried memories.
The wall where my father marked my height while growing up.
The bed he bought for me on my sixteenth birthday.
The shelf where we kept our family pictures.
Everything suddenly looked strange.
Like I never belonged there.
When I finished packing, I carried my bag slowly.
Then I looked at my mother one last time.
“I loved you,” I said painfully.
“Even when you were wicked to me sometimes, I still loved you like a real mother.”
For one second…
I saw guilt pass through her eyes.
But it disappeared quickly.
Then she said the words that finally broke me completely.
“You should have followed your real mother and died together.”
The bag fell from my hand immediately.
The room became silent.
Even the guards looked shocked.
Tears rushed uncontrollably down my face.
“What did you just say?” I whispered.
But she had already turned away.
That was when fear entered my chest again.
Real fear.
I grabbed her arm immediately.
“What happened to my mother?!”
She pushed me away violently.
“Leave me!”
I almost fell.
“What did you people do to her?!”
Barrister Kenneth quickly entered the room at that moment.
“Chioma stop this madness!”
But my mother was already losing control.
“She should have died that night!” she screamed angrily.
“She was never supposed to survive the accident!”
The entire world suddenly stopped around me.
Accident?
What accident?
I stared at her with horror.
“You tried to kill her?”
Barrister Kenneth closed his eyes painfully.
My mother suddenly realized what she said.
But it was too late.
I moved closer slowly.
Tears covered my face completely now.
“You people tried to kill my mother?”
Nobody answered.
That silence was enough.
I staggered backwards like a wounded man.
“Oh God…”
Barrister Kenneth quickly held my shoulder.
“Emeka calm down.”
“Calm down?” I shouted painfully.
“My whole life is a lie!”
I pointed at my mother with shaking fingers.
“You stole me from my real mother?!”
“She was poor!” my mother shouted back.
“She could never give you the life we gave you!”
“So you destroyed her life?!”
“She wanted to take you away from us!”
Tears streamed endlessly down my face.
“You had no right!”
Suddenly my mother pointed at the guards.
“Throw him out now!”
The guards immediately grabbed me.
I struggled hard.
“Leave me!”
One of them dragged my bag downstairs.
Barrister Kenneth tried stopping them.
“Are you people mad?!”
But my mother screamed louder.
“Get him out of my house!”
Rain was already falling heavily outside.
Thunder covered the sky.
The guards pushed me toward the entrance gate violently.
I fell into muddy water.
My clothes became dirty immediately.
I looked back at the mansion through tears.
The same house I called home all my life.
Now it looked like hell.
Barrister Kenneth ran outside under the rain.
“Emeka!”
He handed me an envelope quickly.
“What is this?” I asked weakly.
“Your father left it for you.”
Before I could open it—
My mother suddenly shouted from upstairs.
“Kenneth!”
Everybody looked up.
She was standing at the balcony.
Then slowly…
She smiled dangerously.
A smile that made fear enter my body.
“You should tell him the remaining truth too.”
Barrister Kenneth’s face changed immediately.
“What remaining truth?” I asked fearfully.
My mother laughed again.
Then she shouted the words that nearly stopped my heart.
“The woman you are looking for…”
She paused.
Rain beat heavily around us.
Then she completed it.
“…is inside a psychiatric hospital.”

‎"Doctor Joshua, So after My Twin Brother lnsulted Aunt Gloria and caIIed Her a Fàke Christian, She promised to deaI with the Both of us, But I guessed she's also having that Feeling that The both of us are Màking Iove to each other, it's just that, she hasn't caught us Red handed!...

‎That night, she called Our Mom, Her sister on the phone

‎"Hello Abigail, See I don't know why your children are being disrespectful to me, They are even acting strange!, most of time, I'll come to the kitchen or any place, and I'll see them close to each other, And when I ask them what Exercise is making them so CIose like this, they'll give one excuse.
‎Please Warn your Twins to respect me please,... Just talk to them!"

‎"Sis, don't be àngry, these children are so respectful, I don't know why they're acting like that, and also they're just close to themselves, that's how they behave, I guessed it's because they're Twins, but I'll talk to them!" my mom hanged up the phone.

‎Little did Aunt Gloria know that it was our parents that's pollutîng our hearts, Not only that they didn't train us right, they also Taught us lncest, and EviI teaching that My Twin Brother and I are going to marry, that IT IS A MUST, My parents also said that, That's the Reason why We came out of the Womb the same time, We're meant for each other.

‎So that Saturday, Aunt Gloria took her Husband that's crippled to the Hospital, We were left in the house with My twin Brother, and Aunt Gloria's Children, Two boys and A girl.
‎The first born Hezekiah is 14 years, Prosper the second born is 11, and Goodness is 9 years.
‎My twin Brother and I were just 13 years of age.

‎As everyone was busy, We started playing Whot game, As a matter of fact, Aunt Gloria's children were so happy that we joined them to play, because ever since we entered the house, we have been Frownīng at them, and refusing to associate ourselves with them.

‎After some minutes of playing Whot Game, my Twin Brother broke the silence

‎"This game is boring, I want to introduce another game to us all, you might have heard about it, it's TRUTH OR DARE"

‎"We haven't heard about it, please tell us more about it" Hezekiah said.

‎My twin Brother and I were really shocked that they don't have any idea of what The game is all about, because that's what we normally do at school, and it's always so lmmoral and toxic, where they'll ask a person to kìss each other or Romànce the opposite gender.

‎So I explained the game to them, they said they were ready to do it.

‎I started first, We spinned the bottle, and it landed in Prosper's front, so I asked him to choose between TRUTH or DARE...

‎"I choose Dare"

‎"Alright, I dare you to kìss your sister!" I ordered.

‎"Ehnnnn, God forbid bad thing, what sort of game is this one?" Prosper and his siblings shouted.

‎"See, the rule of game stands, anything they ask you to do, that's what you must do" my twin Brother said.

‎"So what if we didn't do, what's the punishment?"

‎"you'll pay 10,000"

‎"Haaaa, I don't have Such amount of money, and I can't kîss my sister Goodness, My mom will bùry me AIive, that's even a sin against God!" Prosper said, not ready to do Such EviI task.

‎"See, Let me just Say something - that's nothing bàd in kîssing your sister, She's your Siblings, Kîssing is a form of Iove, it's to show that you Iove and Cherish Your sister; Even me, I do kîss my Twin Brother every blessed day, and our parents don't cóunt it as Anything, So don't take it as a big deaI, Just do the DARE challenge!"

‎Hezekiah just whispered Fàintly to Prosper, "Hmmm, Just do it so we can continue in the game, by the way it's just A one time something, we won't try it again"

‎"Also, please I don't want this type of Challenge again please!, there are other things you can give to us, but this one is too sensitive please " Prosper said with annoyance.

‎"Alright, I'll amend it"

‎Prosper went cIosely about to kìss his own sister in the Cheek, when a Knock was heard on the door...

‎"Who's that?" We shouted

‎"Open the door" Aunt Gloria said...

‎I quickly Whispered to all of them

‎"We'll continue the TRUTH Or DARE Game later, but please, don't tell your mom Or dad about this game oo, I hope you understand... Please DON'T tell them about this game..."

‎I'll be dropping This Sàd Unbelievable Story every blessed day, But if I don't see 9K likes, then I'll assume that we don't like this new Story that I just brought now, and I'll probably post another thing entirely...
