Mentor mothers are doing wonders in Nigeria too!!!
In northern Mozambique, Mentor Mothers are bringing lifesaving care directly into women's homes during pregnancy and after childbirth to help overcome barriers to accessing health services.
Drawing on their own experiences, Mentor Mothers help women navigate the health system, initiate and stay on HIV treatment, attend medical appointments and access other vital healthcare for themselves and their babies.
So far, The Global Fund investments have trained 441 Mentor Mothers in Mozambique who work across 122 government-run health facilities. Together, with local partners the Mentor Mothers' program supported nearly 34,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women living with HIV and helped increase treatment initiation among pregnant women living with HIV to 99.7% – helping more babies be born HIV-free.
