HEFAMAA, MEXITTAN Partner to Strengthen Diagnostic Imaging Services in Lagos

The Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening healthcare regulation through strategic collaboration with the Medical X-Ray and Imaging Technicians & Technologists Association of Nigeria (MEXITTAN), Lagos Chapter.

The commitment was made when the Executive Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr. Victoria Egunjobi, received the leadership of MEXITTAN, led by its Chairman, Mr. Adeoye Adediran, on a courtesy visit to the Agency.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Adediran congratulated Dr. Egunjobi on her appointment as Executive Secretary and commended HEFAMAA for its unwavering commitment to regulating healthcare facilities and ensuring compliance with acceptable standards across Lagos State.

He noted the critical role of medical imaging professionals in quality healthcare delivery and stressed the need for sustained collaboration between the Association and HEFAMAA to promote compliance with professional and regulatory standards governing diagnostic imaging facilities.

The MEXITTAN Chairman also reaffirmed the Association's readiness to support the Agency through technical expertise, professional guidance, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement aimed at enhancing patient safety and quality assurance in radiological services.

Responding, Dr. Egunjobi appreciated the Association for the visit and its goodwill. She reaffirmed HEFAMAA's commitment to the effective monitoring, accreditation, and regulation of healthcare facilities in accordance with its statutory mandate.

In her words:"Partnerships with professional bodies remain essential to strengthening regulatory oversight, improving compliance among healthcare facilities, and ensuring the delivery of quality, safe, and patient-centred healthcare services."

The Executive Secretary further assured the Association of the Agency's readiness to sustain open communication and collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders in addressing issues affecting healthcare quality in Lagos State.

HEFAMAA, LAWMA Strengthen Partnership to Improve Medical Waste Management

As part of efforts to promote safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable medical waste management in Lagos State, the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has strengthened its collaboration with the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

The strategic partnership was reinforced during a courtesy visit by HEFAMAA officials, led by the Executive Secretary, Dr. Victoria Egunjobi, to the LAWMA headquarters. The meeting focused on addressing concerns raised by professional associations within the health sector on the collection and disposal of medical waste.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Egunjobi emphasized the importance of inter-agency collaboration in delivering quality services to residents of the State.

According to her, "Partnership is key to progress. Some health facilities registered with HEFAMAA have raised concerns that require collaboration between our agencies to ensure effective and sustainable solutions. By working together, we can strengthen regulatory compliance and improve medical waste management across Lagos State."

The Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN) represented by Rad Opeoluwa Oduwole; the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) represented by Comrade Kabiawa Gbolahan, and the Association of General Private Nurse Practitioners (AGPNP), represented by Dr S .O Akinwande highlighted the need for greater professionalism by Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators in the collection, transportation and disposal of medical waste. They stressed that strict adherence to approved waste management procedures is essential to safeguarding public health and protecting the environment.

Responding, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, assured the associations of the Authority's unwavering commitment to ensuring that all PSP operators carry out their responsibilities in line with established regulations and international best practices.

Improving Radiography Services: HEFAMAA Partners ARN

In a bid to improve radiography services in the health sector, the Health Facilities Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) has entered into a strategic partnership with the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN).

The partnership was initiated during a courtesy visit by the Executive Officers of the Association to the Agency.

In her welcome remarks, the Executive Secretary of HEFAMAA, Dr. Victoria Egunjobi, stated that the Agency operates an open-door policy, making it receptive to meaningful collaborations and contributions from stakeholders in the health sector aimed at enhancing the delivery of quality healthcare services to Lagosians.

According to her, "HEFAMAA is a health facility regulatory agency that is open to collaboration, provided it contributes to improving the quality of healthcare service delivery. However, radiographers are more needed in the field, where they can remain abreast of current trends and best practices in the profession."

Speaking on behalf of the Association, the Chairman of the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN), Lagos State Chapter, Rad. Mary Olayinka, sought the Agency's partnership in the inclusion of radiographers on HEFAMAA's monitoring teams, the organisation of capacity-building programmes, and the strengthening of feedback mechanisms.

She also commended HEFAMAA for its significant contributions to the health sector, noting that the Agency's regulatory activities have gone a long way in curbing quackery and promoting quality healthcare services across Lagos State.

HEFAMAA Inspects General Hospital Onikan to Ensure Compliance with Healthcare Standards

In its continued commitment to ensuring compliance with established healthcare standards across Lagos State, the Inspectorate Department of the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA) conducted a routine inspection of General Hospital Onikan.

The inspection team, led by Dr. Olayinka Daniel, carried out a comprehensive assessment of the hospital's environment, personnel, equipment, and operational processes to evaluate the facility's level of compliance with the rules and regulations guiding the operation of secondary healthcare facilities in the State.

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Daniel stated that the inspection was aimed at improving the quality of healthcare services delivered to patients while promoting a safe and conducive healthcare environment.

"The aim of this inspection is to improve the quality of clinical services being delivered at the facility and enhance the overall standard of the hospital environment. We observed a workforce that is dedicated, committed, and passionate about the institution's mandate," he said.

Responding, the Medical Director of General Hospital Onikan, Dr. Kareem Lookman, expressed appreciation to the HEFAMAA inspection team for the professional conduct of the exercise. He affirmed the hospital's commitment to maintaining full compliance with HEFAMAA's regulatory standards and guidelines.

Dr. Lookman further assured the team that all recommendations made during the inspection would be implemented to further improve the quality of healthcare services and strengthen the hospital's operational standards for the benefit of patients and the general public.
