Remote work spiked during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 pandemic, since then, it has been a great option to push the global economy forward, ignoring the fact that it comes with a price. Salient points from this week's read;

or labour that is characterized by independent or free-agent
workers who work as freelancers and/or remote workers.
2. Occupational mental health can
be defined as workers’ realization of their abilities, resilience against normal stresses of life, capability to work productively and capability to contribute to their communities.
3. Mental health in the working population can be viewed from three aspects mental health problems, mental disorders and mental wellbeing.
4. Mental health disorders are clinical mental illnesses such as depressive disorders, anxiety disorders and schizophrenia.
5. The global remote work population is exposed to a high risk of work-related mental health challenges.
6. Mental health outcomes, e.g., anxiety and depression,are a major problem in the Nigerian workforce, owing to poororganizational resources to support employees’ mental wellbeing and a lack of awareness of occupational mental health.
In conclusion, computer vision syndrome has a detrimental effect on the mental health of Nigerian remote workers as it increases the rate of work related depression and anxiety regardless of age and gender.
