Little history of Osun!
Osun, an orisha (deity) of the Yoruba people of southwestern Nigeria. She is considered one of the most powerful of all orishas, and, like other gods, she possesses human attributes such as vanity, jealousy, and spite.

Annual our Egungun festival is on June-01-2026 you are all invited.
Egungun (or Eegun) in Yoruba land represents the collective spirits of departed ancestors, acting as a powerful Orisa/energy that returns to the human community to bless, guide, and protect the living.
These masquerades symbolize life after death, serving as a vital link between the living and the spiritual realm (Orun).

Key Aspects of Egungun in Yoruba Tradition:
• Role and Purpose: Egungun are not just costumes but believed to be the spirits of the dead, worshipped to maintain a connection with ancestors. They are invoked during crises, festivals, and family celebrations to offer blessings.
• The Masquerade Structure: The costumed figures, often covered in colorful, elaborate cloth that hides their human identity, are called Egungun or Ará Orun (people of heaven).

Worship and Governance: The Egungun cult is managed by specialized practitioners, often led by an Alagba, who oversees the rituals, drumming, and dancing.
• Types of Egungun: There are various types of Egungun, including those representing family ancestors (Egun baba/iya), community founders (Egun ilu), and famous figures.
• Cultural Significance: Egungun festival is a major cultural event, promoting social cohesion, honoring heritage, and reinforcing moral values.

The worship of Egungun reinforces the Yoruba belief that the dead continue to influence the living, ensuring that ancestors are honored and remembered.
