THAT SKIN-LIGHTENING CREAM COULD BE DOING MORE HARM THAN GOOD

Many bleaching creams promise "instant glow" but the hidden ingredients can cause serious long-term damage.

1️⃣ Steroid content: Many unregulated creams contain potent steroids that thin the skin, making it fragile and prone to stretch marks and infections.

2️⃣ Mercury contamination: Some products contain mercury, which can be absorbed through the skin and cause kidney damage over time.

3️⃣ Hydroquinone overuse: In high, unregulated concentrations, it can cause a condition called ochronosis dark, blotchy discoloration that's very hard to reverse.

4️⃣ Sun sensitivity: Bleached skin becomes far more vulnerable to sunburn and UV damage, increasing skin cancer risk over time.

5️⃣ Delayed wound healing and increased susceptibility to skin infections.

6️⃣ Always check for a NAFDAC number and buy from licensed outlets unregistered creams are a major red flag.

Healthy, even-toned skin comes from proper skincare and sun protection — not unregulated bleaching products.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE OFTEN HAS NO WARNING UNTIL IT DOES

Hypertension is called the "silent killer" for a reason many people have it for years without knowing.

1️⃣ Occasional headaches, especially at the back of the head often dismissed as stress or malaria.

2️⃣ Dizziness or blurred vision that comes and goes.

3️⃣ Nosebleeds that seem to happen "for no reason."

4️⃣ Shortness of breath with mild exertion.

5️⃣ Ringing in the ears or a pounding heartbeat you can feel.

6️⃣ Often, no symptoms at all. This is why regular checks matter more than waiting to "feel" something.

Uncontrolled hypertension quietly damages the heart, kidneys, and eyes over time.

✅ Get your blood pressure checked regularly, even when you feel completely fine — early detection prevents long-term damage.

STOMACH ULCERS: SEPARATING MYTH FROM FACT

"Spicy food causes ulcers." "Stress alone gives you an ulcer." Let's set the record straight.

1️⃣ MYTH: Spicy food causes ulcers. FACT: Spicy food can irritate an existing ulcer, but it doesn't create one from scratch.

2️⃣ MYTH: Stress alone is the main cause. FACT: Stress can worsen symptoms, but the leading causes are H. pylori bacterial infection and long-term NSAID use.

3️⃣ MYTH: Ulcer pain always feels the same. FACT: Symptoms vary, burning pain, bloating, nausea, or even no symptoms until complications arise.

4️⃣ MYTH: Milk soothes and heals ulcers. FACT: Milk may briefly ease pain but can actually increase acid production afterward.

5️⃣ MYTH: Once treated, it's gone forever. FACT: Without addressing the root cause (like H. pylori), ulcers can recur.

6️⃣ FACT: A proper diagnosis (often via endoscopy or H. pylori testing) guides the right treatment, self-medicating with antacids alone may just mask symptoms.

Persistent stomach pain deserves proper testing, not just guesswork.

WHY STOPPING ANTIBIOTICS EARLY CAN HARM YOU...

Stopping antibiotics early because "I feel fine now" is one of the most common and dangerous medication mistakes.

1️⃣ Bacteria don't die all at once. Stopping early leaves the toughest, most resistant bacteria alive to multiply.

2️⃣ This creates antibiotic-resistant infections harder, slower, and more expensive to treat later.

3️⃣ It's not just about you: resistant bacteria can spread to family members and the wider community.

4️⃣ Skipping doses is just as risky as stopping early consistency matters for the drug to work properly.

5️⃣ Never save "leftover" antibiotics for next time or share them with someone else's illness different infections need different drugs.

6️⃣ If side effects are a problem, talk to your pharmacist or doctor don't just stop on your own.

Always complete the FULL course exactly as prescribed, even after symptoms disappear.

IT'S NATURAL" DOESN'T MEAN "IT'S SAFE WITH YOUR DRUGS"

Many herbal preparations and bitters are deeply rooted in our culture, but combining them with prescription medication can be risky.

1️⃣ Blood pressure drugs + certain herbal bitters: Some can unpredictably raise or lower blood pressure, making your medication dose inaccurate.

2️⃣ Diabetes medication + herbal teas: Certain herbs can drop blood sugar further, risking dangerous hypoglycemia when combined with your prescribed dose.

3️⃣ Blood thinners (like warfarin) + herbs: Many herbal products affect clotting, increasing bleeding risk.

4️⃣ Liver strain: Some herbal mixtures are processed by the same liver pathways as prescription drugs, increasing toxicity risk when combined.

5️⃣ Unknown concentrations: Unlike regulated medicines, herbal mixtures often have no standard dosing, making interactions unpredictable.

6️⃣ Always tell your doctor or pharmacist about ANY herbal product you're taking — even ones passed down in the family.

"Natural" and "safe" are not always the same thing when mixed with modern medicine.

AVOID MILK WHILE ON CERTAIN ANTIBIOTICS...

Milk and other dairy products can bind to antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, doxycycline, and tetracycline, reducing their absorption.
If you're taking these antibiotics, avoid taking them with milk. Instead, separate dairy products by about 2 hours before or 4–6 hours after your dose, unless your healthcare provider gives different instructions.

3 FOODS THAT SUPPORT MENSTRUAL HEALTH...

Iron-deficiency anemia is common among menstruating women, particularly where dietary iron intake is low; ugu and other dark leafy greens (non-heme iron) are best absorbed alongside vitamin C sources.

NSAIDs also blunt antihypertensive efficacy of ACEi, ARBs, and diuretics via sodium/water retention and reduced renal prostaglandin

People with ulcers, kidney disease, heart conditions, or on blood thinners should avoid NSAIDs without medical advice.
