Today was more than just a health outreach, it was an opportunity to connect with the community and promote healthier lives.

In commemoration of World Hepatitis Day 2026, I carried out a community outreach at Temidire/Sangote Community, Iseyin LGA, Oyo State, as part of my capstone project.

Beyond creating awareness about hepatitis and providing free health screening, the outreach was also aimed at increasing awareness and patronage of Ifelajulo Primary Health Care Centre (PHC). During previous community engagements, I discovered that many residents had little or no awareness of the facility despite it serving their community.

It was encouraging to see the turnout and the willingness of community members to learn, ask questions, and take advantage of the free health services provided.

I sincerely appreciate the Iseyin LGA Health Team for their support and every community member who participated in making the outreach a success.

Every conversation, every screening, and every person reached is a step towards a healthier and more informed community.

od healthcare doesn't only happen within the four walls of a hospital. Sometimes, it begins in the heart of a community.

That was exactly the purpose of our recent community outreach at Odo Ogbo community in collaboration with Ifelajulo Primary Health Centre in Iseyin Local Government Area.

During the outreach, community members had access to:
- Free blood pressure checks
- Free HIV and syphilis screening
- Health education and counselling

Beyond the services provided, the outreach created an opportunity to connect with people, answer their questions, address common misconceptions, and encourage them to take charge of their health. For some, it was a reminder to prioritize regular health checks. For others, it was their first opportunity to know their health status.

This is why community outreach remains an essential part of primary healthcare. It brings healthcare closer to the people, promotes prevention, encourages early detection, and strengthens the link between communities and health facilities.

My sincere appreciation goes to the dedicated healthcare workers, community leaders, and everyone who made this outreach possible.

Together, we are taking meaningful steps towards healthier communities…..one outreach at a time.

Behind every flooded street is a family trying to recover from something they never planned for🤔

For many families, it wasn't just another rainy day.

It meant flooded homes.

It meant damaged vehicles.

It meant closed shops.

It meant children unable to get to school.

It meant hours spent in traffic.

It meant families trying to save what they had worked so hard to build.

But even after the floodwaters recede, the impact doesn't end there.

Floodwater can contaminate water sources, increase the risk of diseases such as cholera, and leave stagnant water behind where mosquitoes breed. What begins as flooding can quickly become a public health concern.

The recent flooding is a reminder that protecting our environment is also about protecting our health. Keeping drainage channels free of waste, disposing of refuse properly, and strengthening flood preparedness are all part of building safer and healthier communities.

My thoughts are with everyone affected. I hope recovery comes quickly, and above all, I hope everyone stays safe.

Today is the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Drug abuse is more than an individual challenge. It affects families, friendships, education, workplaces, and entire communities.

Prevention begins with awareness, honest conversations, and creating environments where people, especially young people feel supported to make healthy choices.

As we mark today, let's remember that protecting our health also means protecting our minds. Every effort to prevent drug abuse is an investment in safer, healthier communities.

According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), nearly 300 million people used drugs worldwide in 2022, highlighting the continued need for prevention, education, and access to support.

Together, we can build communities where health, hope, and opportunity are stronger than addiction.

They are built through the small actions we take every day, keeping our environment clean, making informed health decisions, and looking out for one another.

For many people, genotype only becomes a conversation when marriage is around the corner. But waiting until then is a massive gamble.

Knowing your genotype early allows you to make informed decisions long before making some of life's biggest commitments. Today is “World Sickle Cell Awareness Day”, and it's a reminder that true awareness goes beyond just knowing the disease exists. It is about encouraging open conversations and promoting early testing.

This matters immensely for us because Nigeria carries the highest burden of sickle cell disease in the world, with over 150,000 babies born with the condition every year.

Let's break the silence and make genotype testing a norm, not an afterthought.

Heavy rains are here. Is your neighbourhood ready?

The truth is, when we dump waste in the wrong places, leave gutters blocked, or allow bushes to become overgrown around our homes, it is not just untidy, it is dangerous. During the rainy season, poor sanitation can quickly turn our communities into breeding grounds for diseases such as malaria and cholera.

The environment and our health are more connected than we sometimes realize. When we neglect our surroundings, we often pay for it with our wellbeing.

Let's look out for one another this week. Take a few minutes to clear drainage channels around you, cut down overgrown weeds, and dispose of waste properly.

A cleaner environment means a healthier community.
