STRATEGIC MEETING WITH MANAGEMENT SCIENCES FOR HEALTH (MSH) ON THE PROGRAMME FOR EQUITABLE EXPANSION OF COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKERS (PEECH)

The Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (KSPHCA) today hosted a strategic meeting with the Management Sciences for Health (MSH) team to discuss the implementation of the Programme for Equitable Expansion of Community Health Workers (PEECH) in Katsina State.

The meeting focused on strengthening collaboration to expand access to quality primary healthcare services through community health workers, particularly in underserved and hard-to-reach communities. Discussions also centered on implementation strategies, coordination mechanisms, and partnership opportunities to ensure the successful rollout and sustainability of the programme.

KSPHCA remains committed to working with MSH and other development partners to strengthen the state’s primary healthcare system and improve access to quality healthcare services for all.

Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (KSPHCA), in collaboration with UNICEF and other partners through the Advocacy, Communication and Social Mobilization Technical Working Group (ACSM TWG), today conducted a State-Level Orientation for Majalisa Rigakafi Members and Health Educators at Classique Event Centre, Katsina.

The orientation brought together representatives from the eight implementing LGAs —Baure, Batagarawa, Funtua, Kankara, Katsina, Mani, Rimi, and Safana—to equip Majalisa Rigakafi members with the knowledge, skills, tools, and clearly defined roles required to support non-compliance (NC) resolution, identify, refer, follow up on, and facilitate the vaccination of zero-dose and missed children, while improving supportive monitoring, data quality, documentation, and reporting.

Majalisa Rigakafi is an innovative community engagement initiative that leverages the traditional Majalisa (men's social gathering) as a trusted platform to promote routine immunization, child health, and community action. The initiative was launched on 18 December 2024 by Her Excellency, Hajia Zulaihat Dikko Umar Radda, PhD, First Lady of Katsina State, to address low routine immunization coverage and the high number of zero-dose children in the eight priority LGAs.

Since its launch, the initiative has strengthened male involvement in child health by engaging fathers, community influencers, and traditional leaders as advocates for routine immunization. Their active participation has contributed to increased community awareness, improved demand for immunization services, enhanced identification, referral, and follow-up of zero-dose and missed children, and stronger collaboration between communities and health workers.

KSPHCA, UNICEF, and partners remain committed to supporting innovative, community-driven approaches that ensure every eligible child in Katsina State receives life-saving vaccines and that no child is left behind.

Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (KSPHCA), with support from the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), has successfully completed Phase One of the distribution of Maternal, Child Health and Reproductive Health (MCH-RH) commodities to selected Primary Health Care facilities across the state.

The beneficiary facilities in Phase One include:
✅ CHC Bakori – Bakori LGA
✅ MCHC Dandagoro – Batagarawa LGA
✅ CHC Wagini – Batsari LGA
✅ CHC Babban Mutum – Baure LGA
✅ CHC Bindawa – Bindawa LGA
✅ PHC Radda – Charanchi LGA

During the exercise, Facility In-Charges were also guided on the use of the Open Data Kit (ODK) Platform for the receipt and reporting of MCH-RH commodities, strengthening accountability and improving commodity management across health facilities.

Katsina State Primary Healthcare Agency, in collaboration with UNICEF, today organized a State-Level Advocacy Meeting on Strengthening Social and Behaviour Change (SBC) in Nutrition at Classique Event Centre, Dutsin-Safe, Katsina. The meeting is part of the implementation of the Strengthening SBC in Nutrition Project across ten pilot LGAs in Katsina State.

The meeting brought together government officials, development partners, traditional and religious leaders, civil society organizations, and other key stakeholders to strengthen advocacy, promote positive nutrition behaviours, and enhance collaboration towards reducing malnutrition and improving maternal and child nutrition across the state.

During the meeting, participants emphasized the importance of sustained community engagement, effective communication, and multi-sectoral collaboration in addressing malnutrition. They also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting evidence-based Social and Behaviour Change interventions that will improve nutrition outcomes for women and children across Katsina State.

Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (KSPHCA), in collaboration with the Sultan Foundation for Peace and Development (SFPD) and development partners, successfully conducted the IE Walk-Through Microplanning Exercise Post-Campaign Feedback Meetings across Katsina and Daura Emirates.

The meetings brought together traditional and religious leaders, health officials, and development partners to review feedback from the IE Walk-Through Microplanning Exercise and assess first and second quarter polio eradication activities. Participants discussed achievements, identified implementation gaps, and agreed on practical strategies to strengthen routine immunization and sustain the gains made in polio eradication.

KSPHCA appreciates the unwavering support of the Emirate Councils, traditional and religious leaders, and partners for their continued commitment to protecting every child through immunization and advancing primary health care services across Katsina State.

Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (KTSPHCA), in partnership with the Rotary International Nigeria National Polio-Plus Committee (NNPPC), today honored outstanding frontline polio field workers whose dedication, resilience, and commitment have played a vital role in protecting children and advancing the fight against polio in Katsina State.

The award ceremony recognized the tireless efforts of health workers, supervisors, and partners who continue to ensure that every eligible child receives life-saving vaccines, bringing the state and the nation closer to a polio-free future.

KTSPHCA sincerely appreciates Rotary International, development partners, and all stakeholders for their unwavering support towards strengthening routine immunization and sustaining the gains made in polio eradication.

Katsina State Primary Health Care Agency (KSPHCA), in collaboration with Formula World Solution (FWS), successfully organized a Workshop on Acute Cardiovascular Care focused on ECG Interpretation, Analysis, and Machine Care.

The workshop equipped healthcare professionals with practical knowledge and hands-on skills in ECG interpretation, recognition of cardiac arrhythmias, and the effective use of ECG machines to strengthen emergency cardiovascular care across health facilities.

KSPHCA remains committed to building the capacity of healthcare workers through strategic partnerships that enhance quality healthcare service delivery in Katsina State.

Highlights of Day 2 of the Strategic Engagement on the Consequential Geography Project

Day 2 of the Strategic Engagement on the Consequential Geography Project was marked by insightful discussions, recognition of outstanding partnerships, and renewed commitment to strengthening primary healthcare services in Katsina State.

A major highlight was the presentation of Awards of Excellence to Dr. Saheed Gidado, National Team Lead, NSTOP, and Dr. Suleiman Haladu, State Team Lead, CDC AFENET Katsina, in recognition of their exceptional commitment and unwavering support towards Polio Eradication, strengthening Routine Immunization (RI), and improving the health system in Katsina State.

The awards also symbolize the State's deep appreciation to the entire CDC AFENET team and the US CDC for their invaluable technical and financial support, which has significantly contributed to the success of the Consequential Geography Project and other critical public health interventions.

Another key event was a high-level Panel Discussion that focused on strengthening service delivery, promoting sustainability of interventions, fostering innovation, and consolidating gains achieved under the project.

Participants were also presented with the Year 3 Implementation Plan, outlining strategic priorities and activities aimed at accelerating progress towards a polio-free Katsina State while further strengthening the Primary Health Care system.

Together, we remain committed to building a stronger, more resilient health system and ensuring that every child is reached with life-saving vaccines and essential healthcare services.
