NPHCDA Convenes Q1 Review Meeting as Dr. Iskilu Joins to Strengthen Nigeria’s Primary Healthcare System

The National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) has commenced its 2026 First Quarter Review Meeting with Executive Secretaries of State Primary Health Care Boards, with Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh of NAPHDA currently participating in the high-level engagement aimed at strengthening coordination and improving primary healthcare delivery across the country.

The meeting, convened by the agency’s Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Muyi Aina, brings together key stakeholders in the primary healthcare sector to review progress, address challenges, and align on priorities for improved service delivery.

According to the agency, the engagement is designed to reinforce collaboration among stakeholders, enhance transparency, and drive accountability in the implementation of primary healthcare (PHC) programmes nationwide. It is also expected to support the effective delivery of integrated PHC activities and catalyze positive reforms within the sector.

Key objectives of the meeting include updating state executives on the status of NPHCDA programmes and initiatives, reviewing reports from State Primary Health Care Agencies on ongoing PHC activities, and assessing the implementation of the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF). Discussions also focus on evaluating and improving key performance indicators to boost the effectiveness of integrated healthcare services.

The meeting is being held at the WACOP Hotel and Conference Centre from April 22 to April 23, 2026, with participants expected to depart on April 24. Organizers noted that the event is residential for all Executive Secretaries.

The NPHCDA expressed optimism that the gathering will provide a platform for productive engagement and meaningful progress toward building a sustainable, equitable, efficient, and people-centered primary healthcare system in Nigeria.

UNICEF Officials Visit NAPHDA To Push OBR Match Campaign.

The United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Kaduna Field Office has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening immunization efforts in Nasarawa State with a strategic visit to the Nasarawa state Primary Health Care Development Agency (NAPHDA) on March 2026 Outbreak Response (OBR) campaign.

The delegation, led by Dr. Ahmed Tsofo, engaged with key stakeholders to reinforce collaboration and ensure seamless coordination with the state government in preparation for the vaccination exercise.

The visit underscored UNICEF’s ongoing support for strengthening routine immunization and emergency response systems at the state level.

Speaking during the meeting, the Executive Secretary of NAPHDA, Dr. Usman Iskilu Saleh, warmly received the UNICEF team and expressed appreciation for their sustained partnership. He acknowledged the critical role UNICEF continues to play in improving healthcare delivery, particularly in immunization campaigns across the state.

Dr. Saleh assured the visiting team that all resources and support provided would be effectively utilized to achieve the objectives of the campaign. He emphasized the agency’s commitment to ensuring a successful OBR exercise through coordinated planning and ex*****on.

The visit marks another step in the ongoing collaboration between UNICEF and NAPHDA, aimed at protecting vulnerable populations and strengthening the state’s capacity to respond to public health challenges.

NAPHDA Boss Dr Usman Iskilu Saleh Attends National Health Summit at Presidential Villa

The Executive Secretary of the Nasarawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency (NAPHDA), Dr. Usman Saleh Iskilu, Attended the 2026 National Traditional and Religious Leaders’ Summit on Health held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The high-level summit was convened by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) as part of efforts to deepen collaboration with traditional and faith-based institutions in strengthening primary health care delivery across the country.

The event was hosted by Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, and brought together key stakeholders from across the health sector, including state primary health care leaders, development partners, and representatives of traditional and religious institutions.

The summit forms part of ongoing efforts to advance the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII), launched in December 2023, and to align stakeholders with the Renewed Hope Agenda for the health sector.

In a formal invitation issued earlier by the NPHCDA and signed by its Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Muyi Aina, the agency acknowledged the commitment and leadership of state-level health authorities in supporting national reforms aimed at improving health outcomes.

The summit provided a platform for dialogue and strengthened partnerships between government and community influencers, with a focus on promoting collective action, improving mutual understanding, and mobilizing grassroots support for priority health interventions nationwide.
