This is the real “tech.” 😎

I had the privilege of hosting 2 senior orthopaedic surgeons in Lagos to observe and discuss modern endoscopic spine surgery. Over the course of the session, they participated in few of our 7 cases for the week demonstrating how advanced minimally invasive techniques can effectively treat lumbar disc herniation and spinal stenosis through tiny incisions with minimal disruption to normal anatomy.

Watching experienced colleagues engage with the technology, ask thoughtful questions, and appreciate the possibilities of endoscopic surgery was particularly rewarding. The future of surgical innovation depends not only on new technology but also on our willingness to share knowledge and train one another.

This isn’t the future it’s already here. Endoscopic spine surgery is rapidly becoming the new standard for appropriately selected patients, offering:
• Less tissue damage
• Reduced postoperative pain
• Shorter hospital stays
• Faster recovery and return to normal activities
• Excellent clinical outcomes

As more surgeons embrace these techniques, I believe we can significantly improve the quality of spine care available to patients across Nigeria and West Africa.

In the operating room, light is more than illumination-it is reassurance.

The light from an arthroscope or endoscope guides precision in spine surgery and arthroscopy, allowing us to see clearly, work gently, and preserve what matters most. Through a few millimeters of access, that light helps reduce tissue damage, control pain, and speed up recovery.

For patients, it represents hope — less pain, smaller scars, faster healing.
For surgeons, it represents clarity, accuracy, and respect for the body.

Every time I pick an arthroscope, I’m reminded that healing often begins with light.
