Why do you have time if you won’t use it? What is the essence of being helped if you won’t help others? Even God said, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy” (Matthew 5:7). Why should you have strength and not care for people?
Service is an important way to communicate life for the benefit and uplifting of others. It means using your time, strength, skills, presence, energy, and effort to help, support, and uplift people. Some people give money; others give themselves. Service is giving yourself for the good of others.
You need talent, skill, time, energy, and sacrifice to serve. When it comes to volunteering in church, skills matter as well. That is why you should be grounded in the Word and also grow in other areas, because the more exposed and developed you become, the more you can give. How can you give what you do not have?
A wise man once said, “You cannot pour from an empty cup.” Another popular quote says, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
Service unto men should be as unto God. The Bible says that when we serve our masters or bosses, we should do it as unto the Lord (Ephesians 6:7). Whether in career, church, ministry, or business, we are to be intentional about how we serve. We intentionally dress well, intentionally show up, intentionally care, and intentionally make ourselves available for others.
It is time to care, dare, and be a giver.
Service requires time and effort. You may be trusting God for children, yet you choose to persevere and serve faithfully in the children’s department. This is service. When you choose to serve God, your condition should not stop you. You must persevere. God has a reward.
You cannot be a pipe that allows water to flow through it and not get wet or refreshed itself.
