“MAKE A COVENANT WITH YOUR EYES”

BIBLE TEXT: Job 31:1-4

Job.31.1 "I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust upon a young woman. (NLT)

Job.31.3 It is calamity for the wicked, misfortune for those who do evil. (NLT)

Job.31.4 He sees everything I do and every step I take. (NLT)

Most cases of immorality, r@pe, and s3xual assault often begin with the second look. If you can control your eyes, you can take charge of your actions and protect your destiny.

The saying, “What the eyes do not admire, the eyes do not desire,” carries a profound truth. The eyes are the window to the heart. If you want to learn self-control, you must be intentional about filtering what you allow your eyes to see.

The first look may be accidental, but the second look is often intentional. The Bible described Job as a blameless and upright man, a man of integrity. He revealed the secret of how he maintained his uprightness and guarded his heart from being polluted: Job made a covenant with his eyes. You should too.

Make a conscious decision today about what you will and will not allow your eyes to dwell on. Not everything you see deserves your attention, and not everything that captures your attention should be entertained.

“VICTORY IN THE HANDS OF A WOMAN”

BIBLE TEXT: Judges 4:1-24

Judg.4.8 Barak told her, "I will go, but only if you go with me!" (NLT)

Judg.4.9 "Very well," she replied, "I will go with you. But since you have made this choice, you will receive no honor. For the LORD's victory over Sisera will be at the hands of a woman." So Deborah went with Barak to Kedesh. (NLT)

Judg.4.22 When Barak came looking for Sisera, Jael went out to meet him. She said, "Come, and I will show you the man you are looking for." So he followed her into the tent and found Sisera lying there dead, with the tent peg through his temple. (NLT)

It is a timeless error to think that being a woman means being without strength, courage, or valour. The Israelites were oppressed by the Canaanites for several years before God raised women like Deborah and Jael to play significant roles in bringing victory to Israel.

Deborah played her role alongside Barak, while Jael was used to deliver the enemy a fatal blow right there in her tent. It does not matter whether a woman is on the battlefield or at home; her role as God's battle axe can still be fulfilled wherever He has positioned her.

Do not underestimate yourself as a woman. God has a purpose for you. Deborah and Jael fulfilled their God-given assignments because they carried the burden of fulfilling God's will. Your location, gender, or present circumstances do not limit what God can accomplish through you when you yield yourself to Him.

A woman can be God's mouthpiece, God's battle axe, and God's vessel. God can raise women for strategic battles and assignments in every generation. Are you willing to be one of them?

“DON'T JUDGE BY APPEARANCE”

BIBLE TEXT: 1 Samuel 16:1-13

1Sam.16.6 When they arrived, Samuel took one look at Eliab and thought, "Surely this is the LORD's anointed!" (NLT)

1Sam.16.7 But the LORD said to Samuel, "Don't judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The LORD doesn't make decisions the way you do! People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at a person's thoughts and intentions." (NLT)

1Sam.16.11 Then Samuel asked, "Are these all the sons you have?There is still the youngest," Jesse replied. "But he's out in the fields watching the sheep.Send for him at once," Samuel said. "We will not sit down to eat until he arrives." (NLT)

So many singles have missed their God-ordained husbands, wives, opportunities, and other blessings because they judge by appearance. The way people look, the quality of clothes they wear, or even the wig they put on may not truly reflect the condition of their hearts.

So many single sisters have married dangerous men simply because they were tall, well-built, and handsome. Likewise, some brothers have missed God's will in marriage because they chose a sister based on how well she dressed, how eloquently she spoke, or how charming her personality appeared to be.

God judges people by the intentions of their hearts, because what is in the heart influences a person's words, choices, and actions. Since you may not be able to discern the condition of someone's heart by their appearance, you need prayer, patience, and the discernment of the Holy Spirit.

Do not make decisions in haste. Allow the Lord to lead you, because He sees beyond what you can see. What looks attractive on the outside may be dangerous within, while what appears ordinary may carry great value. Learn to look beyond appearances and allow God to reveal what your natural eyes cannot see.

“DISCIPLINE YOUR BODY”

BIBLE TEXT: 1Cor 9: 24 - 27

1Cor.9.25 All athletes practice strict self-control. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. (NLT)

1Cor.9.26 So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I am not like a boxer who misses his punches. (NLT)

1Cor.9.27 I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified. (NLT)

Many Christian singles are struggling with one addiction or another. They often call it a weakness they cannot overcome and convince themselves that they simply have to manage it. What they fail to realise is that any weakness left unchecked can have dangerous earthly consequences and may also jeopardise their spiritual lives.

You must discipline your body and bring it under the control of the Holy Spirit. Many young people struggle to control their appetites and urges for food, s*x, drugs, po*******hy, ma********on, and other things that can enslave them. Your body should not be allowed to dictate your choices; as a child of God, you must learn to bring your desires under the authority of Christ.

Many singles also live with regret because they failed to control destructive emotions such as anger, bitterness, resentment, envy, and hatred. Self-control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit because a Spirit-filled believer should increasingly demonstrate mastery over his or her desires, emotions, and actions. You cannot afford to keep making excuses for what God is calling you to overcome.

You will give an account to God for the choices you make as His child. Therefore, discipline yourself daily. Train your body, guard your heart, control your appetites, and submit your desires to the Holy Spirit. Do not live carelessly and risk being disqualified from the race.

Eph.6.11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil. (NLT)

Eph.6.12 For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms. (NLT)

Eph.6.13 Use every piece of God’s armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm. (NLT)

Life is more spiritual than physical because the God who gave man life is Spirit. Therefore, you must not live your life casually, so that you do not become a victim in the battles of life.

So many singles live their lives carelessly. They indulge in sin, carelessly calling it a weakness, and have shallow prayer lives. These can weaken their spiritual lives and make them vulnerable targets of the enemy.

You need to be intentional about building a solid spiritual life. Take on the whole armour of God so that you will be able to withstand the wiles of the enemy. We do not wrestle against flesh and blood.

“YOUR GIFT CAN MAKE ROOM FOR YOU”

BIBLE TEXT: Proverbs 18: 15-16

Prov.18.15 Intelligent people are always open to new ideas. In fact, they look for them. (NLT)

Prov.18.16 Giving a gift works wonders; it may bring you before important people! (NLT)

Do not underestimate the importance of generosity. When you give gifts to the right people, it can make room for you. Sometimes, what makes room for you is not your status, position, or influence, but the value you bring into the lives of others. A generous heart can create opportunities and build meaningful relationships.

A gift should never be a bribe or a strategy to manipulate people into giving you favour. True generosity is an expression of love, kindness, and benevolence. Do not give to people simply because you want to use them or gain something from them. Give because you genuinely care.

Proverbs 19:6 says, "Prov.19.6 Many entreat the favor of the nobility, And every man is a friend to one who gives gifts. (NKJV)" Your generosity can attract the right relationships and bring you before the right people, but always remember that your motive matters to God.

Is there someone who has consistently shown you kindness and generosity? Why not appreciate them with a thoughtful gift? It does not have to be expensive. The sincerity behind the gift matters more than its monetary value. Be a blessing, not a user. Let your generosity reflect the heart of your Father, and trust God to make room for you in His own way.

“KNOW THE WORD, KNOW THE TRUTH”

BIBLE TEXT: 2 Tim. 2:14 - 19

2Tim.2.15 Work hard so God can approve you. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth. (NLT)

2Tim.2.16 Avoid godless, foolish discussions that lead to more and more ungodliness. (NLT)

2Tim.2.19 But God's truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and "Those who claim they belong to the Lord must turn away from all wickedness." (NLT)

How much of the Scripture do you know as a child of God, and how well do you understand the Bible? If what you know about Scripture is based solely on what someone tells or explains to you, you can easily be misled.

Several years ago, the story of a popular preacher was told, who took advantage of a young woman serving under him. He was reported to have told the lady, “I want to show you another level of grace,” while s3xually exploiting her. Another prophet once told a young lady that he could transfer the Holy Spirit into her by having s3x with her.

So many young ladies have fallen into the hands of deceitful preachers who exploited them s*xually and financially. These false preachers succeeded because people no longer pay enough attention to studying and understanding the Scriptures.

You have to be committed to reading a portion of Scripture every day, meditating on what you have read, and asking the Holy Spirit for understanding. It is easier to identify falsehood when you are armed with the truth.

Anyone who wants you to embrace what the Scripture strictly prohibits is an enemy of your soul.

“A TIME TO LOSE”

BIBLE TEXT: Eccl. 3:1-11

Eccl.3.1 1 There is a time for everything, a season for every activity under heaven. (NLT)

Eccl.3.6 A time to search and a time to lose. A time to keep and a time to throw away. (NLT)

Eccl.3.11 God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God's work from beginning to end. (NLT)

I have seen several singles cry when they lose a love relationship. Many cry uncontrollable tears and experience indescribable pain. Some even lose their faith during this season because they judge God as unfair for allowing the relationship to end.

You have to understand that God brings some people into our lives for a reason and for a season. Once their chapter ends in our story, it is time to lose them. It does not matter how beautiful the love story was; immediately God closes that chapter, you have to grieve, heal, and move on.

If you are going through heartbreak, be consoled by the truth that your love story is not over. God is preparing someone who will love you genuinely, choose you intentionally, and walk with you through the journey of life. He has beautiful things in store for you, and they will manifest in their own time.

Do not try to force someone to stay in your life once their season in your life is over. Likewise, do not keep someone in your life when you understand, by divine direction, that they are not meant for you. Sometimes, losing someone is not a punishment; it is God's way of making room for what He has prepared for you.

“BLESSINGS OF THE GODLY”

BIBLE TEXT: Psalms 1:1-5

Ps.1.1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; (NKJV)

Ps.1.2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. (NKJV)

Ps.1.3 He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. (NKJV)

As a young girl serving the Lord and pursuing holiness, someone once asked me if I was enjoying my youth. To them, I was missing out on the pleasures of life because I chose to stay away from things that were contrary to God’s commandments. Someone even told me that I would eventually suffer the consequences of having a “boring” youthful life.

Today, some of those who once mocked my decision to live for God are living with regrets. Some of the things they considered fun have become addictions that have stolen their health, peace, joy, and precious years. What looked like enjoyment at the time eventually became a source of pain.

Living a godly life may seem uncommon, restrictive, or outdated in a world that celebrates pleasure without boundaries, but the blessings of holiness far outweigh the temporary pleasures of sin. When you choose God, you enjoy the privilege of a good relationship with Him, the peace that comes from walking in His ways, and the hope of eternal life. Do not trade lasting blessings for temporary pleasures. Your obedience to God is never a waste; there is a reward for living right.
