Dear Wifey,
Today's Newsletter: "That's Not What He Said... But It's What You Heard."
One day, a wife said to me,
"RC, my husband never appreciates me."
I asked her,
"What happened?"
She said,
"I spent three hours cooking. When he got home, he tasted the food and said, 'The stew is a little salty today.' That's all he noticed."
I understood her pain.
But I also asked another question.
"What did you hear when he said that?"
She looked at me and replied,
"I heard that nothing I do is ever enough."
Do you see the difference?
Her husband talked about the stew.
Her heart heard something else entirely.
Dear Wifey, this happens in marriages more than we realize.
A husband says,
"Can we reduce our spending this month?"*
His wife hears,
*"You're irresponsible."
He says,
"I'm tired."
She hears,
"I don't enjoy being with you anymore."
He forgets to call.
She hears,
"You don't matter."
Sometimes the deepest arguments in marriage are not over what was said.
They're over what was heard.
And what we hear is often shaped by the footprints we've carried for years.
If you grew up constantly being criticized, correction may sound like rejection.
If you've been betrayed before, a delayed phone call may sound like deception.
If you've spent years feeling unseen, one forgotten anniversary may whisper,
"You are not important."
The words are happening today.
But the meaning your heart gives those words may have been formed years ago.
This is why two wives can hear the same sentence and react completely differently.
Because we don't just listen with our ears.
We listen with our experiences.
With our fears.
With our memories.
With our wounds.
That is why I keep saying:
Your subconscious mind got married too.
It brought its own dictionary.
A dictionary that quietly translates ordinary moments into painful conclusions.
Dear Wifey, I am not saying your husband always communicates well.
Some husbands are harsh.
Some are dismissive.
Some genuinely need to grow.
But today, I want you to ask yourself one honest question:
"Am I reacting to what he actually said... or to what my past taught me his words must mean?"
That question requires humility.
But it can also bring incredible freedom.
Because when you begin to separate today's conversation from yesterday's wounds, you create room for healthier communication.
And healthier marriages are built one conversation at a time.
Today's Assignment
The next time you and your husband disagree, don't rush to defend yourself.
Instead, write down these two things:
What did he actually say?
What did I immediately believe he meant?
If those two answers are very different, don't ignore it.
You may have just discovered one of your footprints.
And in cases where he is truly being insensitive, understanding yourself and healing will help you not to hurt too much.
As we journey, I will show you to respond to an angry man, overtime, the anger will keep subsiding.
If you respond to anger with anger, my darling that's challenging your husband and men will never take defeat. And that's losing your Femininity.
We will get another video soon on our YouTube channel, do well to watch, subscribe and share with your friends.
