WHY DO OLDER ADULTS NEED SPECIALISED AND COMPASSIONATE CARE?
..the development of JBS Gerontology Centre.

For Dr Toyin Akande Ajala, the answer was not theoretical.

During her geriatric training in the United Kingdom, she became increasingly aware of the limited availability of specialist geriatric healthcare in Nigeria.

At the same time, she was hearing directly from families who were struggling to care for ageing parents and relatives.

These experiences helped shape the vision behind JBS.

In this excerpt from the JBS archives, Dr Toyin Akande Ajala reflects on the thinking that led to the establishment of JBS Medicare Services and, ultimately, the development of JBS Gerontology Centre, the first choice and foremost Specialist Hospital for Older Adults in Nigeria.

Some healthcare needs cannot be addressed simply by treating more patients. They require understanding the specific realities of ageing and developing care around those needs.

This is where specialist geriatric care becomes important.
