JUST A PRETTY GIRL WHO LOVES LEARNING, SHARING AND HELPING OTHERS UNDERSTAND.

You're thinking about making money, and suddenly your feed is full of business ideas, side hustles and people talking about money.
(Na this table I dey, my head wan blow🤦)

You're planning a birthday photoshoot, and suddenly you're seeing photoshoot ideas everywhere.

You're going through a heartbreak, and somehow your feed is now full of relationship quotes, betrayal stories and videos about how people can never be trusted.

Funny, right????

The thing is...

Social media is constantly watching what catches your attention.

What you stop to watch.

What you watch until the end.

What you like.

What you share.

What you comment on.

What you search for.

And based on these things, the platform starts learning what you are interested in.

So the more you watch something, the more of it you're likely to see.

This is why, sometimes, you can go through someone's feed and get a little glimpse of what's been running through their mind lately.

Not because their phone can read their thoughts.

But because our attention leaves clues.

If someone is constantly watching relationship content, you may begin to wonder what they've been thinking about.

If someone is always consuming business content, you can probably tell that money, work or success is occupying their mind.

If someone's entire feed is filled with anger, betrayal, revenge and negativity, there may be something emotionally going on that has made those things particularly interesting to them.

Of course, we shouldn't judge someone's entire life based on their social media feed.

But patterns can tell us something.

The truth is..

What we keep watching can also affect how we keep thinking.

Imagine you're already angry with someone.

You start watching videos about disrespect.

Then another one about toxic people.

Then another about betrayal.

Then another telling you that you should cut everyone off.

And because you've been watching these things, the algorithm keeps bringing you more.

Soon, your entire feed seems to be saying:

"You're right"
" People are terrible"
"Nobody can be trusted."

And because you're seeing it everywhere, you may start believing that this is simply how life is.

But it isn't necessarily the whole truth oooo.

It's just the part of the internet you've been SPENDING the most time with.
Read that againnnnn...

This is why we have to be CAREFUL about what we FEED our minds.

There is almost no FEELING you can have that social media won't find something to AGREE with.

You're ANGRY? Someone will validate your anger.

You're HURT? Someone will tell you why you should never forgive.

You're INSECURE? Someone will give you another reason to compare yourself.

You're SUSPICIOUS? Someone will give you ten more reasons not to trust anybody.

And sometimes, those things may even contain some truth.

But something agreeing with your feelings doesn't AUTOMATICALLY mean it is GOOD for you.

Sometimes you don't need another video telling you that you're right.

Sometimes you need something that helps you see the situation differently.

Something that makes you PAUSE.

Something that helps you ASK...

"Am I seeing the whole picture?"

"Could I be looking at this through my emotions?"

"Is this helping me HEAL, or is it keeping me ANGRY?"

This is especially important for our EMOTIONAL WELLBEING!!

Because our emotions don't exist in isolation.

What we constantly WATCH, READ and LISTEN to can INFLUENCE the thoughts we have, the way we interpret situations and even the way we respond to people.

If you constantly feed your mind FEAR, don't be surprised if you become more fearful.

If you constantly feed it ANGER, don't be surprised if you're always irritated.

If you constantly feed it COMPARISON, don't be surprised when you start feeling like you're not doing enough.

We need to start asking ourselves questions like...

"What have I been feeding my mind that may be influencing how I feel?"

Pay attention to your feed.

Pay attention to what you repeatedly CONSUME.

Pay attention to how you FEEL after consuming it.

Some content will EDUCATE you.

Some will INSPIRE you.

Some will make you LAUGH.

Some will CHALLENGE you in a healthy way.

And some will quietly keep you STUCK in emotions you are trying to heal from.

You don't have to consume everything simply because it resonates with you.

Sometimes something resonates with a WOUND, not with your WELLBEING.

So CURATE your feed.

Give your mind different perspectives.

Follow things that TEACH you.

Follow things that ENCOURAGE you.

Follow things that remind you that there is more to life than the emotion you're currently experiencing.

Because your social media feed is not just entertainment.

In some ways, it has become part of your EMOTIONAL ENVIRONMENT.

And emotional wellness also means being INTENTIONAL about the environment you CREATE for your mind.

Your algorithm is learning what keeps you watching.

Make sure you're also learning what keeps you
well.

I JUST KNOW I’D HAVE BEEN THAT STRICT 80s TEACHER EVERYONE WAS A LITTLE SCARED OF BUT SECRETLY LOVED 😂

When Chaos Feels Familiar, Peace Can Feel Strange

Have you ever wondered why some people keep returning to situations that clearly hurt them?

Why someone can leave a stressful relationship and somehow find themselves in another one?

Why a person may say:

“I know this isn't good for me, but I don't know why I keep going back.”

Sometimes, it's not because they want to suffer.

Sometimes, their nervous system has simply become familiar with survival mode.

When someone spends a long time experiencing stress, conflict, unpredictability, rejection, criticism or emotional instability, the brain doesn't just record the events.

It begins to adapt to the environment.

Your brain is constantly asking:

“What should I expect next?”
If chaos has been your normal for a long time, calm can feel unfamiliar.

And unfamiliar doesn't always feel safe.

This is one reason a person may unconsciously:

• become uncomfortable when things are going well

• overthink peaceful situations

• expect something bad to happen after something good

• mistake emotional intensity for connection

• feel guilty when resting

• constantly scan people's moods

• struggle to relax even when there is no immediate danger

This doesn't mean everyone who experiences these things has a mental illness.

And it doesn't mean your brain is “broken”

It means the brain is adaptive.

It learns from repeated experiences.

The beautiful part is..
What the brain learns can also be unlearned and relearned.

With awareness
Healthier experiences
Supportive relationships
Boundaries, emotional regulation
And, when needed, professional help

A person can gradually learn that they don't have to remain in survival mode.

Sometimes healing isn't simply learning how to survive better.

It's teaching your mind and body that they are finally allowed to experience safety.

SOME STORIES LEAVE YOU ANGRY 😡
SOME LEAVE YOU SPEECHLESS.
AND SOME MAKE YOU SIT QUIETLY AND ASK,
“How did we get here?”

We live in a world where very disturbing things happen.

The people we assume would protect a child are the very people HURTING them

I have been seeing the disturbing story making the rounds about a mother who "allegedly" sexually exploited her six-year-old daughter online.

I couldn't bear to watch it 😭
I struggled to process it.

Not because such things don't happen.
By virtue of my profession, I have heard and seen things that sometimes make me pause and ask, “Can a human being really do this to another human being?”

But this one HITS differently because we are talking about a six-year-old child sexually exploited by her own BIOLOGICAL Mother for Christ sake!!!!

A child who should be thinking about cartoons,
school, food, playing with friends and simply enjoying childhood.

I know a 21-year-old whose mother's best friend sexually abused him, gave him money, introduced him to drugs and today, he struggles with ADDICTION. What makes it even more complicated is that he has come to associate the abuse with PLEASURE, MONEY and ACCEPTANCE.🤦

I know a 36-year-old man who started using drugs because he felt it would boost his SELF-ESTEEM. With time and careful probing, he disclosed that he had been sexually abused by his mother's sister.

I have also encountered cases where BIOLOGICAL fathers sexually abused their own daughters and THREATENED them with death if they ever spoke about it.

One was only 12. Just 12 my brothers and sisters!!

Thankfully, she found the courage to tell her mother.
Mother immediately brought her to the hospital, she was commenced on PEP.

These are not stories from movies....

These are the issues....
These are the issues....

Child sexual abuse is real. And sometimes, it is happening much CLOSER to us than we would like to believe.

I remember growing up as a girl in the barracks and some of the situations I escaped. It makes me think about all the children who may not have been as fortunate.

I'm grateful for the protection I had.

So please, when an uncle jokingly calls your daughter "my wife," don't always laugh it off. Pay attention.

Please pay attention to your children!

We often teach children.."Don't follow strangers!"

But sometimes the danger doesn't look like a stranger at all..

Sometimes it is Uncle...

A family friend...

A neighbour...

A trusted adult...

Someone who has been around the family for years...

And sometimes, the child may even love the person hurting them.
That can make abuse incredibly confusing for a child.

Teach your children that nobody has the right to touch their bodies INAPPROPRIATELY, REGARDLESS of who that person is.

And please, TALK to your children.
Not just...

"How are you?"

Ask questions that actually give them ROOM to speak.

Ask questions that create room for HONESTY.

"Did ANYONE make you UNCOMFORTABLE today?"

"Is there anyone you DON'T like being around?"

"Has anyone asked you to keep a SECRET from me?"

"Did anyone TOUCH you in a way you DIDN'T like?"

And when they speak, LISTEN.

Don't immediately DISMISS them because the person they are talking about is a RELATIVE, family FRIEND, TEACHER, PASTOR, uncle or someone you TRUST.

Most importantly, believe them when they speak.

Listen first...

Investigate appropriately....

Protect...

Children may not always have the words to explain what happened to them.
Sometimes they communicate through behaviour.

A child may suddenly become..
withdrawn..
Fearful..
Aggressive..
Unusually secretive..
Have sleep problems..
Display sexualised behaviour that is not age-appropriate, or begin struggling emotionally.

These signs do not automatically mean ABUSE but they deserve your attention.

And to the UNCLES, AUNTIES and other ADULTS who casually call little girls “my wife” or make sexualised jokes around children.

Please stop!

Children are not miniature adults.
They deserve BOUNDARIES, SAFETY and the FREEDOM to grow without being sexualised.

Children learn what is normal from what we PERMIT around.

And one more thing abuse does not automatically become HARMLESS because the victim is now an adult.

Sometimes what began as abuse in childhood can later become entangled with ADDICTION, SELF-WORTH, RELATIONSHIPS, SEXUALITY and EMOTIONAL REGULATION.

Protect children.!
Listen to them!
Believe them!
And create homes where they know they can speak without fear.

Sometimes, the most important thing a child needs is simply one SAFE adult who will LISTEN.

And when a child SPEAKS, don't make them wish they had remained SILENT.

Today, I met a young lady with Sickle Cell Disease who broke my heart.

She's alone, with no family support, and caring for her younger brother with the same condition.

Her struggles are immense, and her words still echo in my mind: "No be life be this." 😭
No form of formal education as she was always in and out of the hospital till her parents passed on

Her life is literally a daily fight.

The little money she makes from her daily hustle goes into buying of medication for herself and younger brother.

Having Sickling kid/kids is a harsh reality that hits home.

Please, it's important you know your genotype before getting married or having children.

Let's spare future generations the pain. 💔

If you're in a relationship, please get tested and make informed decisions.

No amount of love can surpass the pain and frustration that befalls the family.

Let's break the cycle of pain.

Some wrong believes about Rehab:

Rehab is for severe cases, I mean " mad" people.

Going to a rehab is a sign of weakness

It's a punishment (My parents brought me here to punish me)

People in Rehab are broken

Rehab doesn't work

In reality, rehab is a sign of strength, a proactive step towards healing and recovery.

Struggling with a habit or addiction can be overwhelming.

Willpower alone might not be enough, sometimes you need a supportive environment like rehab to help you break free.

It's okay to ask for help.
A good rehab will help you reclaim your life again.

Doing your best also means acknowledging your current limits and working within them.
This isn't weakness.
Life isn't always in your control.
There will be moments of disappointment, failure, or setbacks.

In all, don't be too hard on yourself!
