The holes on your newborn's head - front and back fontanelles - and the gutters (suture lines) are not for fashion.

They're not factory error. Please.

They are there so your baby's head can squeeze, bend, and maneuver through the birth canal without trouble.

After birth, they also give the brain room to grow, because baby's brain didn't finish downloading at delivery.

You might notice the front one pulsating (going up and down). It an evidence that the brain is getting adequate blood supply including nutrients for its growth

So no, the head is not "soft" because something is wrong.

And no, touching it gently will not "spoil" the baby.

They are smart design, not decoration.

Don't panic. Nature knew what it was doing.
