HELPFUL REMINDERS FOR A HEALTHY MARRIAGE

The things that keep a marriage healthy are not complicated, but over time, we stop doing these things because of the busyness, pressure and demands of everyday life.

This isn't exhaustive but it's worth remembering:

1. Tell each other the truth. Don’t build your marriage on lies or half-truths.

2. Forgive each other. Your spouse will get it wrong sometimes, so will you. Things will not always be right, so learn to forgive and find your way back to each other.

3. Stop keeping a record of past mistakes. Deal with what happened and learn to move forward.

4. Have fun together. Marriage should be more than bills, children and responsibilities.

5. Pray together. Let your relationship with God affect the way you treat each other.

6. Go to church, talk about God’s Word and actually practise what you believe. Make God's Word be the foundation of your home.

7. You can't give what you don't have, so keep growing and becoming. Improve yourself constantly and embrace your your uniqueness

8. Things will not always be right. Learn to forgive and find your way back to each other.

9. Try to understand your spouse. Not every disagreement needs a winner.

10. You don’t have to say everything you think. Sometimes, wisdom is knowing what not to say or knowing when to say it and how to say it

11. Money matters. Learn how to create it, manage it and multiply it.

12. No matter how much you love your children, your spouse should remain your priority. Let your children see that in a healthy and loving way.

13. Have personal goals and shared goals. Wake up each day with a God-given vision for your family and your life.

14. Husband and wife are equal, but the husband is the head of the home. Leadership comes with responsibility, love and service.

15. Unhealed wounds and unresolved baggage can find their way into your marriage. Deal with them. Let Christ heal you, and seek professional help when you need it.

There'd be LESS divorces and heart-breaking stories if MORE people prepared for the marriage than they prepared for the wedding.

We prayed for and now school has resumed! 🙌🏾

Now, beyond getting the uniforms ready, buying school supplies and settling back into routines, how do we show up for our children this new term?

What do they really need from us emotionally, spiritually, academically and at home?

This conversation is for parents, teachers and the entire family.

And yes, Daddy, you’re not left out of the equation! ☺️

Join me this Sunday on YouTube Live for a practical parenting session + thanksgiving for a successful resumption

When you get the job, there’s usually some form of learning involved.

You’re trained and you learn how things are done in that particular organisation.

You ask questions, you get familiar with the role and prepare yourself for what you’re about to take on.

If you haven’t even gotten the job yet, you may still take courses, build your skills, practise, learn from people already doing it or find ways to understand what you intend getting into.

At some point, you have to invest in preparing for the job or career you’re getting into.

Marriage deserves that kind of preparation too.

If you’re single, intending to marry, engaged or newly married, there are things worth learning before life starts teaching you through experience.

And if you’ve been married for a while and feel like you need to go back to the basics and strengthen your marriage, you can do that too.

That’s why I created Marriage LAB.

A 6-week virtual group experience to learn, prepare and strengthen your marriage.

Starts October 10.

First cohort: ₦50,000 instead of ₦100,000.

If marriage is something you’re preparing for, or something you’re already in and want to strengthen, this is worth looking at.

You say you want your marriage to work, but do you know what it takes to make it work?

You don't need therapy or have to be in a situation to want to talk, you may just need someone to listen, to understand or be there.

Have you seen those football matches where the opponent is attacking hard, and suddenly everybody falls back to tighten the defence?

That’s teamwork.

Marriage is teamwork too.

And teamwork means covering your spouse. When they’re under pressure, you don’t leave them exposed. You step in, support them, and protect the team.

It’s not about who is right. It’s about, “How do we handle this together?”
