Last week, Afomdabo Nutrition Consulting FIRM in collaboration with Afomdabo Foundation had the privilege of speaking at the Nutrition Policy Dialogue, organised by the Chain Development Programme (VCDP) in Kogi State. The event brought together policymakers, agricultural experts, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to discuss strategies for improving public health through nutrition-sensitive agriculture.
The keynote speech focused on "Nutrition-Sensitive Agricultural Approaches to Improve Public Health and Wellbeing of the Vulnerable" was given by the E.D John Tsebam. The VCDP, an initiative of the Federal Government of Nigeria supported by , aims to reduce rural poverty, improve food security, and promote nutrition and livelihoods for smallholder farmers and vulnerable populations.
Some key objectives of the programme include:
Ensuring access to nutritious food: promoting stable access to diverse and nutritious food sources
- Promoting balanced diets: encouraging consumption of proteins, vitamins, and essential nutrients
- Targeting undernutrition: focusing on children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers
- Nutrient-rich crops: encouraging production of biofortified foods
- Awareness and education: raising awareness about healthy eating habits and hygiene
The programme has recorded successes in other participating states, including Anambra, Benue, Ebonyi, Niger, Ogun, and Taraba. Kogi State is privileged to be one of the states to scale up the project and we're looking forward to a successful implementation.
We believe that we can work together to create a healthier and more food-secure Nigeria!
