BORNO COMMISSIONER COMMENDS MUSLIM UMMAH FOR SELFLESS SERVICE

The Borno State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Babagana Malarima, has commended the Borno Muslim Ummah (BMU) for its selfless humanitarian and community services to the people of the state, particularly during periods of disaster.

Malarima gave the commendation when the executive members of the Borno Muslim Ummah, led by its Amir, Dr. Abba Jidda Harun, paid him a courtesy visit at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Musa Usman State Secretariat, Maiduguri.

The Commissioner said he was impressed by the numerous activities and programmes designed and implemented by the organisation towards improving moral standards and promoting the socio-economic development of the people of Borno State.

He assured the leadership of the BMU that the ministry would continue to consider the organisation as one of its important partners in promoting selfless service, moral values, peace and unity among the people of the state.

Malarima also assured the organisation that his doors would always remain open to receive memoranda and proposals capable of promoting peace, unity and harmonious coexistence among the diverse communities in Borno State.

Earlier, the Amir of the Borno Muslim Ummah, Dr. Abba Jidda Harun, described the organisation as a non-sectarian and non-profit body committed to uplifting the Muslim Ummah in all spheres of human endeavour.

He said the organisation had continued to render humanitarian and other selfless services to communities, particularly during emergencies and disasters.

Dr. Jidda cited the organisation's intervention during the 2024 Maiduguri flood disaster as one of the humanitarian efforts undertaken by the BMU.

According to him, the purpose of the visit was to formally present the newly nominated executive members of the organisation to the ministry, brief the Commissioner on its programmes and activities, and seek partnership and support in implementing its planned initiatives.

Highlights of the visit included the presentation of goodwill messages by top officials of the ministry and a group photograph involving ministry staff and members of the visiting BMU delegation.

BMU AI TRAINING PROGRAMME

Yesterday, Borno Muslim Ummah (BMU) organized an impactful AI training programme, facilitated by InnoTech Ideation Hub, at the College of Nursing, Maiduguri.

The programme was held under the theme:

“Effective Utilization of AI Among Muslim Youths.”

The training aimed to equip Muslim youths with practical knowledge and skills on how to effectively utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI) for education, personal development, entrepreneurship, creativity, community development, and the advancement of the Muslim Ummah.

Participants were introduced to various AI tools and practical ways of applying AI responsibly and productively while upholding Islamic values.

BMU appreciates InnoTech Ideation Hub, the management of the College of Nursing, Maiduguri, facilitators, organizers, and all participants for their valuable contributions towards the success of the programme.

Together, let us empower Muslim youths with knowledge, technology, and Islamic values for a better future.

BMU TRAINS MUSLIM YOUTHS ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The Borno Muslim Ummah (BMU) has organised a training programme for Muslim youths aimed at equipping them with knowledge and practical skills in Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly for academic and everyday applications.

The training, held at the College of Nursing Sciences, Maiduguri, brought together executive members of the Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria (MSSN) from various tertiary institutions across Borno State, as well as officials of Area Units and Area Councils.

Speaking at the opening of the programme, the Amir of Borno Muslim Ummah, Dr. Abba Jidda Harun, described the training as timely and essential, stressing that it would help Muslim youths confront emerging challenges facing the Ummah, including the growing spread of deepfakes, misinformation and disinformation.

Dr. Jidda noted that young people are the vanguards of every society and must therefore acquire the knowledge and skills required to counter activities capable of damaging the image of their religion and culture.

«“The world is moving fast technologically, with the invention of many devices replacing human activities. We should not be left behind,” Dr. Jidda said.»

Participants were introduced to the basic concepts of Artificial Intelligence, the use of AI chatbots and applications, including ChatGPT and Gemini, as well as website creation and other emerging digital technologies.

The programme, powered by Innotech Ideation Hub, combined theoretical lessons with practical sessions to provide participants with hands-on experience in the application of Artificial Intelligence.

Two participants, Muhammad Sabo Muhammad and Rukayya Muhammad Kauji, commended the Borno Muslim Ummah for organising what they described as a timely and important training programme.

They urged participants to share the knowledge and skills acquired during the training with other students in their respective institutions.

The Naibul Amir of Borno Muslim Ummah, Muhammad Galadima Kauji, charged participants to further develop their knowledge of Artificial Intelligence by enrolling in technology-based institutions and programmes to deepen their understanding of the rapidly evolving field.

He also encouraged them to transfer their knowledge to younger generations and contribute positively to the technological development of society.

The one-day training programme ended successfully, with assurances that similar capacity-building programmes would be organised in the future.

ASSISTANCE FOR THE MONTH OF RAMADAN

All praise is due to Allah who has granted us the opportunity to witness the blessed month of Ramadan, a period of mercy, forgiveness, generosity, and compassion towards humanity.
As part of our annual humanitarian and religious responsibilities, Borno Muslim Ummah (BMU) is organizing its Ramadan Assistance Program aimed at supporting vulnerable members of our community. The program is designed to provide essential food items, clothing, and financial support to orphans, widows, the sick, and the less privileged, so that they may observe the fasting period with dignity and ease.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Whoever gives food for a fasting person to break his fast, he will have a reward like theirs, without that detracting from their reward in the slightest.” (Tirmidhi)
In this regard, BMU humbly calls upon well-meaning individuals, philanthropists, and organizations to contribute generously to this noble cause. Your support will help provide:
1. Ramadan food packages (rice, millet, sugar, oil, etc.)
2. Iftar support for needy families
3. Sallah clothing for orphans
4. Medical assistance for the sick and vulnerable

Every donation, no matter how small, will bring relief and happiness to those in need and earn immense reward from Allah (SWT).
Let us use this blessed month to strengthen brotherhood, compassion, and service to humanity.
