I THOUGHT LAB SCIENTISTS JUST “COLLECT BLOOD”… UNTIL I TRIED THEIR JOB. 😂😭

As a medical student, you enter the laboratory with confidence.

White coat? ✔

Stethoscope? ✔

Confidence? Overflowing. 😂

Then the lab scientist looks at you and says:

“Doctor, since you’re free, help us with these samples.”

I smiled.

“Simple work.”

My ancestors started laughing immediately. 😭

First assignment:

“Arrange these blood samples.”

I picked one tube.

Then another.

Five minutes later…

All the tubes started looking like twins.

I couldn’t even remember which one I picked first. 😂

Next they said:

“Take this sample to the centrifuge.”

I carried it like it was a newborn baby.

I switched on the centrifuge.

The machine started making one serious sound.

I stepped back immediately.

In my mind I had already written my apology letter to the Head of Department. 😭💀

Then came malaria RDT.

Simple, abi?

Until they asked:

“Where’s the control line?”

I started staring at the cassette like WAEC practical.

The cassette was looking at me too.

Both of us were confused. 😂

Then urinalysis.

I finally understood that urine has more personalities than some human beings.

Color.

Appearance.

Protein.

Glucose.

Ketones.

Blood.

Leukocytes.

Nitrites.

Specific gravity.

By the time they finished explaining everything…

I was the one that needed investigation. 😭

Then somebody shouted:

“Who packed this sample?”

Everybody looked at me.

Even the microscope looked disappointed. 😂

Meanwhile…

The lab scientist was just sitting quietly.

No panic.

No shouting.

Just watching me experience premium character development.

Finally he said:

“My brother… go back to your ward.”

I didn’t argue.

I carried my remaining dignity and left.

That’s when I realized something.

Doctors can suspect malaria.

But the lab scientist confirms it.

Doctors can suspect typhoid.

But the lab scientist tells you if you’re chasing the wrong diagnosis.

Doctors can prescribe treatment.

But someone has to produce results everyone can trust.

People think laboratory scientists just “collect blood.”

If only they knew.

Behind every accurate diagnosis are people checking, verifying, repeating tests, maintaining equipment, controlling quality, and making sure one tiny mistake doesn’t change someone’s life.

So the next time you see a medical laboratory scientist quietly working in the lab…

Respect them.

Because while everyone is debating the diagnosis…

They’re busy looking for the evidence.
