Free Hepatitis Screening

We’ve started. Come for free hepatitis screening.

We’re set. People can start coming

Our team at Genesis Social Impact Foundation in conjunction with Genesis Medical Diagnostics Centre took hepatitis awareness to Arada Market as part of our activities leading up to World Hepatitis Day (July 28).

We engaged traders in conversations to assess their knowledge and attitudes towards hepatitis. Interestingly, while many were unfamiliar with the medical term “hepatitis,” they immediately recognised it by its Yoruba name, “arun jedojedo.” This highlights the importance of communicating health information in languages that people understand.

Our interactions also revealed some concerning attitudes. While some traders were receptive, others expressed little interest, citing the current economic challenges and feeling that hepatitis testing was not a priority. Some also believed that knowing their hepatitis status could negatively affect their mental health or even trigger other illnesses.

These conversations gave us an opportunity to address common misconceptions, provide accurate health education, and reassure participants about the importance of early detection. We are encouraged that many people responded positively and expressed willingness to take advantage of the free hepatitis screening on World Hepatitis Day.

Awareness is the first step toward prevention, early diagnosis, and treatment. Together, we can break the myths, reduce stigma, and work towards a future free from hepatitis.

Know your status. Protect your liver. Protect your future.
