Let's talk about diarrhea and vomiting in babies 🩺

➡️ What causes vomiting in babies? There are many causes of vomiting in babies and children. It could be an infection. It could be a feeding intolerance. It could be an underlying illness. It could be a congenital issue. It's just important to pay attention to: How much your baby is vomiting? How often? If it's right after they eat? What color the vomit is? These are questions that your doctor may ask you.

➡️ What causes diarrhea in babies? Most pediatricians consider diarrhea to be a sudden increase in the amount of stools, they're usually watery and about three or more per day. Diarrhea is usually caused by infections or some type of food intolerance or a problem with absorption. Basically, food goes into a gut, and the body puts too much water into the gut and there's diarrhea.

One of the most important things for all of us to do is to maintain hydration in kids, especially if they're losing a lot of fluids. And if you have any questions, you should always reach out to a doctor.

🤔 What’s the “M” word every woman goes through but we still don’t talk about enough?

Let’s unpack menopause.

💡 It's a completely natural, but often misunderstood stage of life.

🩸 Menopause marks a point when a woman’s monthly periods stop for good because of natural decline in hormone levels.

It can affect wellbeing:

🔹 Physical
🔹 Mental
🔹 Social
🔹 Emotional

👩🏽‍🦰 It usually happens between ages of 45 and 55, but can begin earlier for some women.

📈 For most women, the menopausal transition, or perimenopause, is gradual and can take place over several years.

Some signs include:

🔹 Changes to your menstrual period
🔹 Hot flashes
🔹 Trouble concentrating
🔹 Trouble sleeping
🔹 Changes to libido

It’s a new chapter. Support, lifestyle and health care can make a real difference.

💙 March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

Colorectal cancer affects the colon or re**um and is the 3rd most common cancer worldwide, responsible for about 10% of all cancer cases. It is also the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally.

📈 The risk increases after age 50, but cases are rising among younger adults in some countries. Early stages often have few or no symptoms, which makes awareness and screening important.

*Possible warning signs include:*

🩸 blood in the stool
🥲 persistent abdominal pain or bloating
📉 unexplained weight loss
🥱 fatigue
💩 changes in bowel habits

*The good news? Many cases can be prevented or detected early.*

🥦 Eat more fruits and vegetables
🏃 Stay physically active
🚭 Avoid to***co
⚖️ Maintain a healthy weight
🍷 Limit alcohol

If symptoms appear, talk to a health professional early. Detecting colorectal cancer early greatly improves survival.

🌼 March is Endometriosis Awareness Month.

Did you know that 1 in 10 women of reproductive age live with endometriosis?

❤️‍🩹Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside the uterus, causing inflammation and pain.

*Symptoms can include:*

💥 severe period pain
🩸 heavy bleeding
😣 chronic pelvic pain
🤰 difficulty getting pregnant
🤢 bloating and nausea

For many, it affects daily life — from school and work to relationships and mental health. Yet diagnosis can take 4 to 12 years on average, because symptoms are often misunderstood or dismissed.

🏥 While there is currently no cure, treatments such as pain medicines, hormonal therapy and sometimes surgery can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.

*What can help?*

🔹Learn the symptoms
🔹Talk openly about menstrual health
🔹Seek medical advice if pain disrupts daily life

Greater awareness and earlier diagnosis can make a real difference.

What is one way you can keep your child safe from diseases? Handwashing!

Washing hands can keep children safe from bacteria and viruses that can make them and others around them sick.

Your child should wash their hands frequently throughout the day. Here are some of the times you should always wash your hands:

➡️ When hands are visibly dirty

➡️ Before and after eating

➡️ After using the toilet

➡️ After touching animals and pets

➡️ After blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.

Why is breastfeeding critical for babies?

Breastmilk is the perfect food for babies, providing complete nutrition while being naturally safe, clean, and ready to feed without any preparation, even in areas with poor water quality or sanitation.

More than just nutrition, breastmilk acts as powerful medicine that's specially designed for each baby's needs, with the first milk (colostrum) packed with antibodies that protect against disease and death.

🌎 Obesity is now one of the biggest global health challenges — linked to *3.7 million deaths in 2024* and costing the world over *US$3 trillion* every year.

😱 Without action, the number of people living with obesity could *double by 2030*.

To help change this, WHO has released its first-ever guideline on using *GLP-1 therapies* to treat obesity as a chronic disease — not a personal failure.

✅ WHO recommends GLP-1 medicines alongside healthy eating, regular activity, and professional care.

⚖️ The goal: make treatment accessible, fair, and lifelong.

🚶‍♀️ Small steps count — move daily, choose nutritious foods, and seek medical advice if struggling with weight.

As Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General, said:

“Medication alone won’t solve this crisis — but it can help millions live healthier, happier lives.

At Nedu Metro Hospital we Care and your wellness is our priority.

🦠 Did you know there's a tapeworm called Taenia solium that can cause serious health problems?

🚨 While the worm itself lives harmlessly in your gut, if eggs from contaminated food or poor hygiene enter your body, they can travel to your brain and cause seizures or epilepsy — a condition called neurocysticercosis.

🌍 This disease affects millions worldwide—estimates suggest 2.5 to 8 million people suffer from it, and it’s preventable!

*The main ways to stay safe?*

✅ Wash your hands thoroughly, especially after using the bathroom.

✅ Wash vegetables and cook pork thoroughly.

✅ Avoid using untreated human manure in farming.

✅ Educate yourself and others about transmission.

🐷 Breaking the cycle also involves vaccinating pigs and improving farming practices—part of a “One Health” approach that protects humans, animals, and the environment.

💪 Stay safe, practice good hygiene, and always follow the science.
