HEALTH COMMISSIONER INSPECTS 30-BED ULTRA-MODERN HOSPITAL AHEAD OF HANDOVER TO IMO STATE

The Imo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Chioma Egu, alongside the CEO of Heartland Hospital Management, Dr. Emmanuel Ogueri, has conducted a pre-commissioning inspection of the newly completed 30-bed ultra-modern hospital in Assa, Ohaji, built and furnished by Renaissance Energy Company for their host community ahead of its handover to the Imo State Government.

During the inspection, officials assessed the facility’s readiness to commence operations, describing the project as a major boost to healthcare delivery in the state.

Dr. Chioma Vivian Egu expressed profound gratitude to Renaissance Energy Company for its commitment to giving back to its host communities through strategic investments in healthcare. She noted that the hospital would significantly improve access to quality medical services for residents while complementing the state’s efforts to strengthen the health sector.

Renaissance Energy Company also announced plans to partner with the Imo State Health Insurance Scheme by adopting beneficiaries for healthcare services. As part of the initiative, the company will provide five days of free medical care, including surgical procedures, to selected residents, reaffirming its commitment to improving access to quality healthcare in host communities.

JOIN THE WORLD HEPATITIS DAY 2026 COMMEMORATION

The Imo State Ministry of Health invites the public to commemorate World Hepatitis Day 2026 on Tuesday, 28 July 2026.

The event features a Walk for Life, free hepatitis screening, health talks, and counselling services in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor of Imo State, GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative, and Rise Against Hepatitis Global Initiative.

Walk for Life: 7:30 a.m. (Control Post to Imo State Secretariat)

IMO STATE MINISTRY OF HEALTH TO COMMEMORATE WORLD HEPATITIS DAY 2026 WITH FREE SCREENING, HEALTH TALK, AND WALK FOR LIFE

The Imo State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Office of the Wife of the Governor of Imo State, the GoodHope Women Flourish Initiative, and the Rise Against Hepatitis Global Initiative, will on Tuesday, 28th July 2026, commemorate World Hepatitis Day 2026 in Owerri. The event highlights the State Government's commitment to raising public health awareness, promoting early detection, and working towards the elimination of viral hepatitis through accessible healthcare measures.

As part of the celebration, the public will have access to free viral hepatitis screening, counselling, and health talks to raise awareness about hepatitis prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The event will kick off with the Walk for Life at 7:30 a.m., from Control Post to the Imo State Secretariat, followed by the main programme at 9:00 a.m. at the Ministry of Health Complex, Imo State Secretariat, Port Harcourt Road, Owerri.

The Imo State Ministry of Health welcomes all residents of Imo State to take this opportunity to learn their hepatitis status and receive professional health counselling free of charge. Together, we can increase awareness, encourage early diagnosis, and take important steps towards eliminating viral hepatitis.

Ebola Virus Disease is a serious but preventable illness. Be alert for these warning signs, especially after contact with a sick person or travel to an affected area:

⚠️ Sudden high fever
⚠️ Severe weakness
⚠️ Headache and muscle pain
⚠️ Vomiting or diarrhoea
⚠️ Unexplained bleeding or bruising

*Protect yourself:*

✅ Wash your hands regularly with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
✅ Avoid contact with the blood or body fluids of sick persons.
✅ Do not self-medicate or hide symptoms.
✅ Seek immediate medical care and report any suspected case.
