EAT DATES SO YOUR LABOUR WILL BE EASY

You've probably heard this before as a pregnant woman 👀🤰

But here's what many people don't tell you:

Some studies suggest that eating dates from around 36 weeks may support cervical ripening and help the body prepare for labour but they are NOT a guarantee of easy labour.

Dates can be a healthy addition to your third trimester but moderation still matters.

⚠️ If you have gestational diabetes or high blood sugar, please speak to your doctor before adding dates to your diet. They can raise blood sugar more than you'd expect.

Healthy pregnancy is more than internet advice.
Your antenatal care still comes first. ❤️

SUNDAY HEALTH CHECK ✅

Before this new week starts — pause for 2 minutes.

Not for your phone. Not for anyone else.

For YOU. 👀

Ask yourself honestly:

✔️ Have I been drinking enough water?
✔️ Have I been sleeping properly?
✔️ Have I checked my blood pressure lately?
✔️ Am I taking my medications correctly?
✔️ Have I been eating well?
✔️ Have I actually rested?

Because your body warns you before it breaks down.

That headache. That dizziness. That tiredness you keep calling "stress." That chest pain you keep ignoring.

Don't wait for an emergency before you take your health seriously.

This week, choose yourself too. 💛

Which one have you been neglecting? 👇
A. Water
B. Rest
C. Eating well
D. Medical checkup
E. Medications

Drop your answer below ❤️ Share with someone who needs this today.

I thought it was just pregnancy swelling...

Those were her last words before we rushed her to ICU.

Today is May 22 World Preeclampsia Day, and this is the one post I hope every pregnant woman sees.

Preeclampsia doesn’t always scream. Sometimes it whispers.
And by the time you notice, it’s already dangerous.

Check yourself for these 5 silent signs:
1. Headache that painkillers can’t help.
2. Face, hands, or eyes swelling up overnight
3. Blurry vision, flashing lights
4. Sharp pain under your right ribs
5. Gaining 2kg in 2 days for no reason

If 2 of these sound like you , call or visit your midwife/nurse TODAY. Don’t wait for your next appointment.

Your BP doesn’t care that you feel fine. Take action.

💙 Tag a pregnant friend. You might save her life.

She was a teenage girl.
She couldn't talk.
She couldn't swallow.
She was bleeding.

And all her parents could say was —

“We took her to someone in the market. He is good at it.”

For six thousand naira.

SIX. THOUSAND. NAIRA.

A tongue tie that should have been handled in a proper medical facility was handed to a roadside cutter in the market with an unsterilized blade and zero training.

And when the bleeding wouldn't stop...
When the pain became unbearable...
When she could no longer talk properly...

They brought her to us.

Now they want injections.
Now they want proper treatment.
Now they want the hospital.

But why didn't the hospital come FIRST?

I am a nurse. I have seen things that break my heart.
But this one stayed with me.

Because that six thousand naira could have gone toward proper care.
Instead, it bought pain, infection, and a mother's tears.

⚠️ Roadside cutters are not doctors.
⚠️ A sharp object is not a medical instrument.
⚠️ Cheap does not mean safe. It never did.

Tongue tie. Circumcision. Cutting. Tonsils.

Whatever the procedure — please go to a proper hospital.

Your child is not a market transaction. 💔

YOUR MALARIA DRUGS ARE FAILING AND IT'S NOT THE DRUGS FAULT.

A mother told me last week: Nurse, that 8-hour dose is not that serious. I can't wake up in the middle of the night for tablet.

I understood her. But I had to tell her the truth.

When you take your first dose of Artemether Lumefantrine (Coartem) it attacks the malaria parasites but it doesn't kill all of them. The 8-hour dose is what finishes the job and every other dose completes the treatment.

Whenever you skip it, those surviving parasites don't sleep. They multiply. They come back harder.

So here's what I tell every patient:

It is better not to start treatment at all than to start and abandon the 8-hour dose.

Because an incomplete course doesn't just fail you, it makes the next battle harder to win.

✅ Zero hour - take it
✅ 8 hours- set your alarm, wake up, take it
✅ Always with food
✅ Finish the full course

You already started. Finish it.
