That’s why heart health should not only become a conversation when something feels wrong. Knowing your numbers, understanding your risk and getting the right checks when needed can make a difference.

Depending on your symptoms, risk factors and medical history, your doctor may recommend investigations such as an ECG, echocardiogram, cardiac CT, coronary CT angiography or coronary angiography to get a clearer picture of your heart and blood vessels. The first reaction we kept getting at ARCON?

“10,000?!”

A few people literally had that jaw-dropped reaction when they saw the number on our shirts. Then came the questions: How is this happening? When does it start? How can I be part of it?

And honestly, that’s exactly the conversation we want to create.

Because 10,000 free mammograms is a big goal. But it can only happen when people show up; for you, for her, for the women you love.

Early detection can change the conversation around breast cancer. It can mean finding something earlier, getting the right information sooner, and having the opportunity to act.

So yes, we’re wearing the shirts.

The best conversations in healthcare are the ones that ask: what can we do better for the people we serve?

We recently welcomed the Clinical Director and Business Development Manager of Anderson’s Hospital to POCCH for a valuable exchange on healthcare delivery, areas of shared interest and opportunities for collaboration.

This Pink October, POCCH is working with our partners m; HIA Oncoclinics Africa Rencare Africa Breast Cancer NGO Nigeria Kelita Jay and the Rivers State Ministry of Health to provide up to 10,000 FREE mammogram screenings for women.

And here is the part you need to know:

24 OCTOBER IS THE REGISTRATION DAY, NOT THE SCREENING DAY.

Come to POCCH on the 24th of October, register your details and receive your assigned date for your free mammogram.

The screenings will be scheduled over a period of time so that women can be properly accommodated. 10,000 women cannot be screened in one day.

But you must register on 24th October to be enrolled on a date, for the free screening.

The campaign is for women aged 35 years and above.

So start planning now.

This Pink October, POCCH (Dr. Peter Odili Cancer and Cardiovascular Hospital), together with our partners, is working towards providing up to 10,000 FREE mammogram screenings for women in our community.

Because too many women postpone screening.
Too many say, “I’ll do it later.”
And too many only seek answers when there is already a serious concern.

Early detection starts with taking that first step.

HERE’S HOW TO PARTICIPATE:

Join us for Pink Steps for Her, our breast cancer awareness walk in collaboration with Grace Life Foundation, as we take the message of breast health across Port Harcourt.
đź“Ť Saturday, 24 October 2026
This is the main registration event at POCCH.
Eligible women must come to:
✔️ Register their details
✔️ Be enrolled for the campaign
✔️ Receive an assigned date for their free mammogram screening

The mammograms will be conducted over a period of time, not all on one day, so every registered woman can be properly accommodated.

Please note: Registration on 24 October is essential. If you do not register on that day, you will not be enrolled for this free mammogram initiative.

The screening is intended for women aged 35 years and above. If you are younger but have a strong family history of breast cancer, such as a mother or grandmother who has had breast cancer, you may need to begin screening earlier.

And if you’re not coming for yourself, come for someone you love.

Bring your mother.
Call your sister.
Tell your auntie.
Remind your friend.
