PUBLIC HEALTH NOTICE

I wish to express my deep concern over what I witnessed today at the Sunday cattle market (Tiken Shanu) in Damaturu. The large quantity of meat being sold from animals reportedly slaughtered outside approved abattoirs—popularly referred to as "Yankan Jauro"—is alarming and poses a serious public health risk.

I strongly urge members of the public not to buy meat from unauthorized sellers or from animals that have not been slaughtered and inspected in a government-approved abattoir. Meat that has not undergone proper veterinary and public health inspection may come from sick or unfit animals and can expose consumers to dangerous foodborne diseases.

I also call on the Environmental Health Officers, Veterinary Services, and other relevant regulatory authorities to take immediate action to prevent the sale and distribution of such meat in our markets. Regular inspection, enforcement of public health laws, and prosecution of offenders are essential to protect the health and safety of our communities.

Public health is everyone's responsibility. Let us only purchase meat from approved slaughterhouses and licensed vendors to safeguard ourselves and our families.

📢 CLARIFICATION NOTICE

Our attention has been drawn to a publication attributing the recent courtesy and advocacy visits to the Emir of Bade and the Executive Chairman of Bade Local Government to another association.

For the avoidance of doubt, the visits in question were conceived, organized, and conducted by members of the Yobe Concerned Environmentalists (YCE) as part of preparations and advocacy efforts ahead of the forthcoming National Environmental Sanitation Day (NESD) activities.

While we appreciate every organization and stakeholder working towards the advancement of Environmental Health and Public Health, it is important that due recognition is given to the individuals and groups responsible for specific initiatives.

We therefore wish to clarify that the visits were not carried out under the banner of the association mentioned in the publication but rather by the Yobe Concerned Environmentalists (YCE).

We remain committed to collaboration, unity, and the collective advancement of our noble profession. We encourage all stakeholders to verify information before publication in order to promote professionalism, transparency, and mutual respect among organizations.

🏢 OFFICIAL VISIT OF THE GENERAL MANAGER TO YOSEPA POTISKUM ZONAL OFFICE

Yesterday, the General Manager of Yobe State Environmental Protection Agency (YOSEPA), Damaturu, accompanied by the Director of Human Resources, paid an official visit to the YOSEPA Potiskum Zonal Office.

The visit was organized to formally present appointment letters to:

🔹 Sanitarian Mohammed Alhaji Abba – Zonal Officer, Potiskum Zone

🔹 Sanitarian Abdulhamid Baba – Deputy Zonal Officer, Potiskum Zone

The occasion was graced by distinguished guests, including representatives of:

✅ Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Potiskum Zonal Command

✅ Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Potiskum Unit

The event was successfully conducted and featured an interactive session between the General Manager and staff of the zonal office.

During the engagement, staff highlighted several challenges affecting their operations, including:

1. Lack of operational vehicles to effectively cover the vast area under the Potiskum Zone.

2. Lack of sanitary facilities for female staff.

3. The need for additional support and interventions from the State Headquarters to improve service delivery.

In his response, the General Manager expressed appreciation for the dedication of the staff and assured them of management's commitment to addressing their concerns. Regarding the sanitary facility, he requested to be shown the proposed location, and work on the project commenced immediately on the same day.

On the issue of operational vehicles, the General Manager promised to escalate the matter and explore possible interventions to enhance the mobility and effectiveness of the zonal office, In shaa Allah.

The visit further strengthened the relationship between management and staff while reaffirming the agency's commitment to improving working conditions and environmental service delivery across the state.

We congratulate Sanitarian Mohammed Alhaji Abba and Sanitarian Abdulhamid Baba on their well-deserved appointments and wish them a successful tenure in office.

ADVOCACY AND FAMILIARISATION VISIT TO BADE EMIRATE AND BADE LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Alhamdulillah.
Today, the Forum of Yobe Concerned Environmentalists, in collaboration with the Zone C Sanitation Officer and other distinguished Environmental Health professionals, paid an advocacy and familiarisation visit to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bade, as well as the Executive Chairman of Bade Local Government Area.

The visit was aimed at discussing strategic approaches towards the successful preparation and commemoration of the 2026 National Environmental Sanitation Day (NESD). In addition, deliberations focused on other pertinent issues and challenges confronting the Environmental Health profession and the need for sustained collaboration among stakeholders to strengthen environmental sanitation and public health services in Yobe State.

The delegation was led by San. Comr. Mohammed Hamza, PhD (in view), Chairman of the Yobe Concerned Environmentalists. During the visit to the Palace, the Chairman and his entourage presented a position paper to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bade, seeking his royal support and intervention in advocating to the State Government for the recruitment of unemployed Environmental Health graduates. This appeal was made in recognition of the increasing need for qualified Environmental Health personnel to address the environmental and public health challenges facing the State and its communities.

The visit was highly successful and yielded positive outcomes, reflecting the commitment of traditional institutions, local government authorities, and Environmental Health professionals to advancing environmental sustainability, improving public health outcomes, and promoting professional development within and beyond Yobe State.

The Forum of Yobe Concerned Environmentalists remains steadfast in its commitment to championing policies and programmes that foster a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable society for present and future generations.

🌿 WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2026 – APPRECIATION AND SUCCESSFUL PARTICIPATION 🌿

Alhamdulillah, we are pleased to inform our members and followers that the World Environment Day 2026 celebration organized by the Department of Environmental Education (Science), Federal College of Education (Technical), Potiskum, was successfully conducted.

The Yobe Concerned Environmentalists (YCE) proudly attended and participated in the event, which brought together environmental professionals, academics, students, and stakeholders committed to promoting environmental sustainability.

We sincerely appreciate the organizers for the invitation and the opportunity to be part of this remarkable occasion. The lectures, discussions, and tree-planting activities highlighted the importance of ecosystem restoration and collective action towards a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable environment.

We also commend all participants whose contributions made the event a success.

As environmental advocates, we remain committed to supporting initiatives that promote environmental health, sustainability, and public awareness.
