SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF SOSMELSSA MEDICAL OUTREACH 2026

Alhamdulillah!

The Sokoto State Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association (SOSMELSSA) successfully concluded its Medical Outreach held on Saturday, 25th July, 2026, at Wamakko Local Government Area, as part of the activities marking our 10th Annual Health Week.

Guided by the theme, “Preventing Sickle Cell, Preserving the Future: The Power of Pre-Marital Screening,” the outreach provided free medical laboratory services, including:

HB Genotype Testing
Blood Grouping
Hepatitis B Screening
Retroviral Screening
Malaria Testing
Beyond the laboratory services, participants also received health education on the importance of premarital screening, disease prevention, and maintaining healthy lifestyles.

We express our sincere appreciation to Almighty Allah for the success of the outreach. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to our partners, sponsors, donors, invited guests, healthcare professionals, volunteers, members of SOSMELSSA, and the good people of Wamakko LGA for their immense support, cooperation, and participation.

Your contributions made this outreach impactful and successful. Together, we have taken another step toward promoting preventive healthcare and improving community well-being.

📢 MEDICAL OUTREACH 2026

As part of the 10th Annual Health Week of the Sokoto State Medical Laboratory Science Students’ Association (SOSMELSSA), we are pleased to invite the general public to our Medical Outreach themed:

“Preventing Sickle Cell, Preserving the Future: The Power of Pre-Marital Screening.”

🗓 Date: Saturday, 25th July, 2026
📍 Venue: Wamakko Local Government Area
🕗 Take-off Time: 8:00 AM

FREE Medical Laboratory Services:

* HB Genotype Testing
* Blood Grouping
* Hepatitis B Screening
* Retroviral Screening
* Malaria Testing

This outreach is aimed at promoting early disease detection, encouraging informed health decisions, and raising awareness on the importance of premarital screening in preventing sickle cell disease.

We encourage everyone in and around Wamakko LGA to take advantage of this opportunity to know their health status—because prevention is always better than cure.

We sincerely appreciate the Management of the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Kware, especially the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Abubakar Suleiman Baguda, for granting SOSMELSSA, UDUS the opportunity to visit the hospital as part of our 10th Annual Health Week 2026.

The excursion provided participants with valuable exposure to a specialized healthcare environment and enhanced our understanding of the practical roles of Medical Laboratory Scientists in patient diagnosis, quality laboratory services, and interdisciplinary healthcare delivery.

We also extend our heartfelt appreciation to all students and participants who took part in the excursion. Your enthusiasm, punctuality, discipline, and active participation contributed greatly to the success of the visit.
