UPDATE on the suspected attacker:
The 21-year-old r**e suspect Jasin A. remains in custody, that is what the Hague court has decided. The man is suspected of two r**es and an assault of Leiden students. Releasing him now would cause great unrest, the court says. A.'s lawyer asked for his release earlier.
Leiden was terrorized by assaults and r**es end of 2019. Student associations in Leiden warned, especially female members, about pawing men. Women were advised against, by the student associations, going out on the street alone at night. Leiden even organized two discussion evenings about the assaults and r**es. Reports of sexual assaults and r**es have led to much unrest and feelings of insecurity. The suspect allegedly struck on October 26, November 6 and on December 4.
The suspect's lawyer wants A. to be put under house arrest and with an ankle strap at home. The Public Prosecutor strongly opposed. The release would cause a strong commotion. A. will be transferred to a juvenile judicial institution. The case will be continued at the end of August.
