It has certainly been a crazy few weeks in the life of Kate.
At a recent Uni assessment day, dutifully practicing blood pressures on fellow students, it brought to light my BP… it started at 150/88, the more worried I got, the closer to the final assessment, the higher and higher it climbed to 160/98… yeah… f**k!
So I thought I’d give it a couple of weeks of no assessments and see what it does… off to mums I went… 150/101… bu**er!
Appointment at the docs, a reading of 116/92… untreatable, as medication will drop both numbers… not what we want… a load of blood and urine tests and an ECG followed…
Follow up with my GP, Vit D is low, and WCC slightly elevated, but nothing to be concerned about, lose some weight though… job done…
Loaded with my path results I booked in to see a naturopath… “How are you feeling? Like I’m just holding everything together with sticky tape” “How are you emotionally? I have nothing” “I feel like my BP… when I am supposed to be working, I have nothing, no energy, no focus, no drive; when I’m trying to rest I can’t stop” “ I don’t feel unwell, but I certainly don’t feel well” 45 minutes of questions, covering all facets of my life, do you notice your hair falls out? Do you feel the cold? Like all the questions…
Turns out, while “normal” my thyroid is shot… abnormal is 4.1… I’m sitting at 3.95… this is causing adrenal fatigue, which is causing my BP to rise… we treat the thyroid, we support the adrenal glands, we drop the BP…
This, my beautiful friends, is why I’m studying Naturopathy. I love modern medicine, I am a registered Nurse, but there is something missing… so many times I hear “I’m so tired” “I just don’t feel like myself” “I’m waking up at 3-4am most nights and can’t get back to sleep” blood tests won’t show an abnormality, and GP’s wait for the abnormality to arise before action is taken. That’s how it works, but healthcare can be better.
I now have a treatment plan, it’s simple and clear. Be kind to yourself, let’s support you through the next few weeks at Uni and get you to the holidays where we can do more.
So kids!! You’re coming along for the ride!!
