If you've been googling hair loss solutions, you've probably come across everything from oils to supplements to laser combs — and it's overwhelming.

Here's how I think about it: the right solution depends entirely on where you are in your hair-loss journey.

Early stage with active follicles? Minoxidil, PRP, or GFC can slow the loss and stimulate regrowth. Mid-stage with thinning but follicles still present? A combination approach works best. Advanced stage with significant follicle loss? A hair transplant is the only permanent solution.

There's no one-size-fits-all answer. But there is always an answer.

Short answer: maybe — but probably not in the way you think.

When you first start retinol, you might experience purging — breakouts that seem worse than before you started. This happens because retinol accelerates cell turnover, pushing congestion that was already forming under the skin to the surface faster than it normally would.

Purging is temporary. It typically lasts four to six weeks and then clears as your skin adjusts.

But not every breakout on retinol is purging. If you're breaking out in areas you never normally break out in, or if it's been more than six to eight weeks and things are still getting worse — that's a reaction, not purging.

In that case, you may be using too high a concentration, applying it too frequently, or your skin simply doesn't tolerate it well.

The difference matters. Once you push through — the other thing you need to address.

Premature ageing isn't random — it has specific, identifiable causes. And most of them are preventable.

Sun exposure without SPF is the biggest driver by far. UV damage is responsible for the majority of visible skin ageing — pigmentation, fine lines, loss of elasticity. It accumulates silently over years.

Smoking breaks down collagen and restricts blood flow to the skin. Smokers consistently show more pronounced ageing than non-smokers of the same age.
Chronic stress and poor sleep elevate cortisol, which actively degrades collagen and impairs your skin's ability to repair itself overnight.

A diet high in sugar and processed foods triggers glycation — a process where sugar molecules attach to collagen fibres and make them rigid and brittle.

Pollution and blue light exposure generate free radicals that accelerate cellular ageing.

Most of this is within your control.

If minoxidil isn't working for you, here's what I'd check first.

Are you using it consistently, every single day, without breaks? Because minoxidil only works when it's maintained. Missing applications regularly will stall your results significantly.

Have you given it enough time? Most people need at least four to six months of consistent use before seeing meaningful change. Two months in is too early to conclude it's not working.

Is your hair loss at a stage where minoxidil can actually help? If your follicles have been inactive for a long time or are completely gone, no topical treatment will bring them back. That's when a hair transplant consultation becomes a more realistic conversation.

And finally, is there an underlying cause that hasn't been addressed? Hormonal imbalance, nutritional deficiency, or scalp conditions can block results even with correct minoxidil use.

Not seeing results? Let's find out why. Book a consultation.

Minoxidil is one of the most commonly used hair loss treatments — and one of the most misunderstood.

It works by widening blood vessels around the hair follicle, increasing blood flow and delivering more oxygen and nutrients to the follicle. This extends the growth phase of the hair cycle and can stimulate dormant follicles to become active again.

It doesn't work for everyone, and it won't regrow hair where follicles are completely dead. But for the right candidate — particularly in the early to mid stages of hair loss — it can be genuinely effective when used consistently.

The keyword is consistently. Stop using it, and the results reverse.

A question I get more often than you'd think — and the honest answer is: sometimes, yes.

Most shampoos aren't the direct cause of hair fall, but the wrong formula can irritate your scalp, strip its natural oils, and weaken hair at the root over time. Sulphates, heavy fragrances, and harsh preservatives are the usual culprits — especially for people with sensitive scalps.

Hard water is a bigger issue than most people realize. The high mineral content in hard water (calcium, magnesium) builds up on the scalp and hair shaft, making hair brittle, dull, and more prone to breakage. If you've moved to a new city and noticed more shedding, hard water could genuinely be a factor.

That said — shampoo and water are rarely the sole cause of significant hair loss. If you're losing more than 100 strands a day consistently, it's worth looking deeper — hormones, nutrition, stress, and genetics are far more common drivers.

Pigmentation is one of the most common concerns I see — and one of the most misunderstood.

There are different types, and they don't all respond to the same treatment. Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from acne or injury, melasma driven by hormones, and sun spots from UV damage all look similar but have different causes — and different solutions.

What makes pigmentation tricky is that the wrong treatment can actually make it worse. Strong exfoliation on active melasma, for example, can trigger more melanin production. This is exactly why knowing the type matters before you start anything.

Struggling with pigmentation that isn't shifting? Let's figure out what's actually causing it..

Anti-ageing doesn't have to mean fillers and lasers — though those help too. Here are the five things that actually make the biggest difference:

1. SPF, every single day.
The majority of visible ageing — fine lines, pigmentation, loss of elasticity — is caused by UV exposure. Sunscreen is your most effective anti-ageing product, full stop.

2. Retinol.
The gold standard for skin cell turnover. It smooths texture, fades pigmentation, and stimulates collagen over time. Start slow and be consistent.

3. Vitamin C in the morning.
Antioxidant protection, brightening, and collagen support — all in one serum. Pairs perfectly with SPF.

4. Hydration — inside and out.
Dehydrated skin shows every line. Hyaluronic acid topically, and enough water daily.

5. Sleep and stress management.
Cortisol breaks down collagen. Chronic stress and poor sleep show up on your skin faster than most people realise.

Zooming in to tell you something important. 🔍

I can tell when you're not wearing sunscreen.

The early pigmentation, the uneven tone, the fine lines showing up before they should — your skin tells me everything. UV damage is quite cumulative. You don't feel it happening, but I see the evidence every single day in my clinic.

Sunscreen isn't optional. It's the single most effective thing you can do for your skin — more than any serum, any treatment, any procedure.

Wear it. Every day. Even when it's cloudy. Even when you're indoors.

Your future skin will thank you.
