Doing my bit, saving one mother at a time.

She was 30 years old. A mother of two.
After a pregnancy complication, she wouldn't stop bleeding.

Doctors tried everything. Medicines. A surgical procedure. Blood transfusions — 5 bottles of blood. Nothing worked. Her body was shutting down.

Surgery to remove her uterus was considered — but she was bleeding so severely that even that operation could have killed her on the table.

A Life-Changing Procedure — A First Outside Kathmandu Valley

A 30-year-old man came to us with a condition called Wallenberg Syndrome — a type of stroke that affects the brainstem, the part of the brain that controls basic body functions like swallowing and balance.

Because of this condition, one of his key nerves — the vagus nerve — was damaged. This nerve plays an important role in swallowing, and with it affected, the patient was completely unable to eat or drink by mouth for an entire month. To keep him alive and nourished, a thin tube had to be passed through his nose down into his stomach — a temporary measure known as a Nasogastric (NG) tube. While this helped, it was not a comfortable or long-term solution.

To give him a better quality of life, a decision was made to place a PEG tube — which is a feeding tube that is placed directly into the stomach under flouro guidance in cathlab. It allows patients who cannot swallow to receive proper nutrition safely and comfortably over the long term.

The procedure was carried out successfully, and the patient is now doing well.

What makes this achievement especially significant is that this is the first time a PEG tube has ever been placed outside the Kathmandu Valley — bringing a procedure that was once only available in the capital closer to patients who need it most.

This is a proud milestone — not just for the medical team involved, but for healthcare access in Nepal as a whole.
