Three times in the past month, I’ve had conversations where we’ve discussed whether an eating disorder assessment would be a helpful next step. These can be pretty big, tough, conversations. Full of relief often too though.
As a coach, I don’t diagnose or clinically treat eating disorders, that’s the role of appropriately qualified clinicians. My role is to recognise when someone may benefit from further assessment, have those conversations with care, and help bridge the gap between where they are now and the support they need.
What I can do is recognise when someone’s relationship with food, eating or their body has moved beyond something coaching alone can support. Has it moved beyond what that individual can hold?
I can have the hard conversations.
I can help someone understand what’s happening without further shame.
I can encourage them to take the next step.
I can offer hope, because there is plenty.
And I can continue walking alongside them as part of their wider treatment team, if that’s appropriate.
This is exactly why I completed my Australian Centre for Eating Behaviour Approved Practitioner training.
Having walked this path personally, I feel very passionately about helping people get the support they genuinely need.
Sometimes that healing begins with finding one person who sees what’s really going on and helps you take the next step.
If you’re living with food constantly on your mind, feeling out of control around eating, or exhausted by the battle in your head, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
It starts with a conversation and I know how hard they can be, but they are worth their weight in gold.
With so much love if you are in this place.
