The Breathing Space this Thursday 30th July!
This breathwork group explores evidence-informed breathing techniques that safely and intentionally use brief periods of both hyperventilation and hypoventilation to create temporary shifts in physiology and consciousness. By intentionally changing breathing patterns, carbon dioxide (CO₂) levels fluctuate, influencing blood flow and oxygen delivery within the body.
During brief periods of hyperventilation, lower CO₂ levels cause blood vessels supplying the thinking regions of the brain (particularly the prefrontal cortex) to constrict, which can temporarily reduce executive control and make emotions, memories, and sensations held within deeper brain structures such as the limbic system and amygdala more accessible. Periods of hypoventilation help build CO₂ tolerance, improve the body's ability to utilise oxygen efficiently, and can enhance resilience to stress while promoting parasympathetic nervous system regulation.
Within a safe, trauma-informed environment, participants will be guided through these practices to develop greater awareness of the connection between breath, body, emotions, and mind. Many people experience benefits such as improved emotional processing, reduced stress, increased self-awareness, enhanced nervous system regulation, greater mental clarity, and a deeper sense of presence.
