Does your body start feeling different in the days leading up to your period?

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) isn't just about mood, it often brings a range of physical symptoms that can disrupt your daily routine. Understanding these signs is the first step toward managing them effectively.

Common physical symptoms include:
• Fatigue or low energy - feelings of tiredness, exhaustion, or lack of motivation.
• Joint or muscle aches - generalised pain, stiffness, or discomfort in the body.
• Bloating or constipation - abdominal fullness, gas, and difficulty with bowel movements.
• Swollen or tender breasts - increased sensitivity, swelling and discomfort in breast tissue.

If these symptoms are impacting your quality of life, we're here to help you find relief and balance. If you would like to arrange an appointment with Dr Narena Dudley, please call 021 024 51019 or email [email protected].

Have you heard the news? Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) has been officially renamed to Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS).

This isn't just a name change - it’s a major step forward in how we understand and treat this condition.

The term ‘PCOS’ was coined back in 1935 when it was thought to primarily affect the ovaries. We now know it is far more complex. The shift to PMOS better reflects that this is a multi-system hormonal and metabolic condition, rather than just a concern about ovarian cysts.

Why the change matters:
• Despite the old name, people with PMOS do not actually have higher rates of abnormal ovarian cysts than those without the condition.
• The term "polycystic" was often misleading, which unfortunately led to delayed diagnoses for many women.
• The new name acknowledges the wide-ranging endocrine, reproductive, cardiometabolic and psychological impacts.

This change aims to reduce confusion and help the 10-13% of reproductive-aged women worldwide feel more informed, empowered and supported in their healthcare journey.

We’re here to help. Whether you are struggling with irregular periods, acne or metabolic concerns, our team is here to help you navigate this new era of PMOS care with expert, patient-centred support. Email us [email protected] or call 021 024 51019 to book a consultation.

When a patient reaches NED, finishes treatment, or enters remission, many assume their life “goes back to normal.”

Remission isn’t the end of care, it’s a transition into a new, medically complex phase called survivorship. The crisis may be over, but the impact of cancer and its treatments continues in ways most people never see.

Patients move from active treatment to ongoing surveillance: scheduled exams, imaging, labs, and specialist follow‑ups that can last for years.

At the same time, late and long‑term effects begin to surface — neuropathy, lymphedema, pelvic floor dysfunction, sexual health changes, chronic pain, fatigue, and organ‑specific complications from surgery, radiation, or chemotherapy. They are part of the clinical reality of survivorship.

Emotionally, many patients experience cancer‑related PTSD, fear of recurrence, hypervigilance, and anxiety that often intensifies after treatment ends. When the world expects them to “move on,” they’re navigating trauma their bodies and minds are still processing.

Care also becomes more fragmented. Survivors often juggle oncology, gynecology, primary care, pain management, mental health, and rehabilitation. This care coordination is ongoing and necessary — not optional.

And while medical needs increase, support often decreases. Friends and family assume the hardest part is over, leaving survivors to manage a new normal that is anything but simple.

NED doesn’t mean normal. It means adapting to a changed body, managing chronic symptoms, attending constant appointments, and living with uncertainty — all while trying to rebuild life after cancer.

Treatment may end, but the journey doesn’t. Survivorship deserves the same understanding, validation, and support as diagnosis and treatment.

Why the HRT Conversation is More Complicated Than Social Media Suggests -

A recent article on the Forbes website says:

As awareness of hormone replacement therapy grows, so does enthusiasm. But the rapidly evolving conversation around HRT may be oversimplifying a highly individualized medical decision.

HRT can be a powerful tool, and for some women it can be life changing. It is also one option within a broader landscape of care.

As more women consider it, the most important shift may not be whether HRT is embraced or avoided. It is whether the conversation around it remains grounded in context, individuality and a clear understanding of both benefits and risk.

The goal is not simply more treatment. It is better-informed choices.

Dr Heather Currie said -
“This is a refreshingly, balanced article”
