The heart behind CHAIRFIT®.

Sometimes the setback becomes the beginning of something new. ❤️

My movement journey began with yoga — traditional poses, stretching, breath and stillness.

But over 14 years ago, a serious lower back injury and L5/S1 herniated disc changed everything.

My own recovery taught me to look at movement differently.

I realised we need more than flexibility. We need strength, balance, mobility, stability and functional movement to help us navigate everyday life.

That journey took me from my yoga teacher training… to instructing functional fitness classes and eventually to creating CHAIRFIT®.

Today, my community classes combine seated and standing movement to help people build strength, confidence and freedom of movement — whatever their starting point.

Because I’ve learned firsthand: Sometimes you have to change the way you move. Sometimes you need support and sometimes progress is incredibly small.

But small steps still count. I know this because I’ve lived it.

My injury changed my relationship with movement — and ultimately led me to create something I hope helps other people feel stronger, more capable and more confident in their own bodies.

That is the heart behind CHAIRFIT®.

You may have to change the way you move, but you don’t have to stop moving. ❤️

Move Better. Feel Stronger. Live Freer. ❤️

Why I choose resistance bands over weights for CHAIRFIT®

Bands are a fantastic way to build strength without putting unnecessary strain on your joints, but you still need to be mindful of not holding tension in the upper body while you work the shoulders and arms. The rotator cuff muscles can be weak which is the reason why the shoulders need targeting and strengthening but I always advise to work within your own range of movement and stop immediately if any exercise is uncomfortable.

Resistance bands are easy to adjust to your own level of ability. And the best bit? No heavy weights to lift or carry.. just simple, effective and perfect for helping keep your body strong as you age.

💚MEET BRUCE — A TRUE CHAIRFIT® INSPIRATION

Bruce has been coming to my group fitness classes for many years. Then, just over a year ago, life changed dramatically when he underwent an amputation of part of his leg.
But Bruce didn’t let that setback define him.
With determination, a positive mindset and a prosthetic leg, he is now enjoying life, moving again and has become a regular participant in my CHAIRFIT® classes.

His story is a beautiful reminder that movement is possible in so many different ways — and that our mindset can play such a powerful role in motivation, resilience and overcoming challenges. Bruce could have allowed his circumstances to keep him at home. Instead, he chose to keep moving forward. 🙌 — a true inspiration and a wonderful reminder that it’s never too late to move, adapt and keep living life.

⚖️ Balance is one of the best indicators of healthy ageing. The good news? You can improve it with practice!

✨ Try this mini balance challenge:

👣 Heel-to-Toe Hold
Place one foot directly in front of the other and hold for 20 seconds.

➡️ Side Steps
Take a wide steps to the right lifting the foot off the ground, then repeat to the left. Try this 8 x alternating both feet then repeat with the foot crossing behind 8x😀

These simple exercises help improve balance, coordination, leg strength and may reduce your risk of falls.

💬 Could you hold the full 20 seconds? Let me know in the comments!

Always have a chair or wall nearby for support if needed.🪑

👋Your hands tell the story of healthy ageing! Did you know your hands, wrists and fingers need regular exercise too?

As we age, stiffness, arthritis, reduced grip strength and loss of dexterity can make everyday tasks like opening jars, doing up buttons or even holding a coffee cup more challenging.

👍just a few minutes of hand and finger exercises each day can help Improve grip strengthIncrease flexibility and mobilityReduce stiffness and tensionEnhance circulationImprove motor skills and coordination

Now let’s wake up your brain too!
Read these sentences out loud as quickly as you can :
👉 Red lorry, Yellow lorry
👉Unique New York, Unique New York

That’s a few good tongue twisters to improve cognitive processing or try the hand to forehead challenge that I’m demonstrating in this video, placing your other thumb out front & then change hands😀Which exercise is the trickiest for you ?
Let me know in the comments below …

👉Save this post to practise again tomorrow and share this with someone who’d enjoy a fun brain and hand workout!
