Yay! 3 months supply available from 1st September. 🙌

We’re making it easier to access Estradiol TDP Mylan patches

From 1 September 2026, people using the Estradiol TDP Mylan patches will be able to:

✅ Get up to three months’ supply at once
✅ No longer be limited by a two patches per week limit

This means fewer trips to the pharmacy and a more convenient way to manage treatment for those people who are able to use the Mylan brand.

Bali retreat anyone?

Christie from Active Soul is running her annual retreat to Bali and has two spots left.

I used to train with Christie when I lived in Auckland and loved the sessions - especially Sunday travelling.

Check out the post for more info or contact Christie directly.

It was a pleasure to speak to the Rotary Club of Invercargill Sunrise last week about nutrition and healthy ageing.

I talked about the importance of protein, maintaining muscle as we age, supporting steady blood sugar, and how small, realistic changes can make a meaningful difference to our health and that it is never to late to make changes.

Thank you for having me and for being such an engaged audience. I really enjoyed the conversation and the thoughtful questions!

What's for lunch today?

Lunch is the meal that seems to trip a lot of people up.
We’re good with dinner, getting better with breakfast… but lunch? Often an afterthought.

In my 8 week nutrition program, we spend an entire week focusing on lunch, because it’s one of the easiest ways to improve your energy, focus, and food choices for the rest of the day.

Adding protein and fibre at lunch (and a bit of planning!) helps you avoid that mid-afternoon slump, and keeps you out of the office treat cupboard or away from the sugary snacks.

If you need some inspiration, I’ve put together a free Lunch Recipe Book full of simple, high-protein, fibre-rich ideas you can prep ahead or throw together quickly.
It’s free to download and perfect if you’re looking to tidy up your nutrition and make healthy eating easier during a busy workday.

Last week I was in Australia on holiday and couldn't help taking some photos in the fruit and vegetable aisle of a local supermarket.

I love exploring supermarkets in different places when I can, as I find it interesting comparing prices and products to NZ. As you can see, some things are a lot cheaper than NZ.....and check out the colour of those capsicums!

As a nutritionist, I spend every day encouraging people to eat more vegetables, fruit and whole foods... and seeing the prices made me realise again just how challenging that can be in New Zealand.

When someone tells me healthy eating is expensive, yes it can be, but there are ways to tackle this. Using frozen vegies is a great alternative and the options available in NZ now are so much better than they used to be, frozen capsicums are a staple at our place.

Part of what I help with is supporting people make the healthiest choices they can within their budget, their family and their lifestyle.

What's one thing you've changed recently that's helped keep your grocery bill under control?

AI is a regular topic of conversation in our house. With kids aged 15, 14 and 10, they're growing up in a world where it's becoming part of everyday life.

My 15-year-old asked me a question I wasn't expecting.

'"Why would anyone pay to see a nutritionist when they can just ask ChatGPT to write them a meal plan?"

Great question and my answer was... they absolutely can.

In fact, ChatGPT can generate meal plans, recipes, shopping lists and even explain the basics of nutrition. It's a brilliant tool, and I use it in my business almost every day.

But here's what it can't do.
✅It can't sit across from someone who's tried every diet under the sun and work out why nothing has stuck.
✅It can't notice the patterns between someone's blood test results, symptoms, medications, lifestyle, stress levels, sleep and relationship with food.
✅It can't ask the follow-up questions that uncover what's really going on.
✅It can't coach someone through the weeks when life gets busy, motivation disappears, or old habits creep back in.

Most of the people I work with don't need another meal plan.
They need someone to interpret the science, personalise the advice, challenge their thinking, keep them accountable and help them build habits that actually fit their life.

That's the part AI can't replace. AI is a great tool but lasting behaviour change still works best human to human.

As a Registered Clinical Nutritionist, that's where I add the most value.
How do you use AI to support your health and nutrition goals?

For many of my clients, lunch is the trickiest meal of the day to get right.
It's often rushed, squeezed in between meetings, or you simply forget to pack something.

There are some great grab-and-go options at the supermarket that are often a better choice than many of the foods you'll find in a café cabinet.

One of my favourites is:
✔️ Tegel Chicken Meal Maker
✔️ Bag of rocket
✔️ Hummus
✔️ Cherry tomatoes

Sushi is another popular option, but it's often not high enough in protein on its own. Try adding a miso soup (around 6g of protein) and a small pack of beef jerky to make it a more balanced meal.

Getting enough protein at lunch helps keep you fuller for longer, supports more stable blood sugar levels, helps prevent that mid-afternoon energy slump, reduces cravings, and makes it easier to meet your daily protein needs.

Remember, not every lunch needs to be perfect. It's the choices you make consistently over the week that have the biggest impact on your health.

I'll be sharing more quick, high-protein lunch ideas over the next few weeks.

What's your favourite grab and go lunch option?
