Ever wondered what your dentist is doing in a root canal treatment? Here's a beautiful photo showing you just that!

A very fine sterile file is carefully used to clean the tooth right down to the root, remove infection and save your tooth ultimately. Under expertly administred local anaesthetic, you will not and should not feel a thing. Most of my patients fall asleep! 💤💤💤

ENDO MANICURE

The obsession is real! Measuring an endodontic file is a crucial step in root canal treatment to ensure we've recorded the length required to clean out the infection in a canal. Now there's just a stylish way to do it! Although not very strict on infection control... 😂😂😂

Some of the most densest collection of intricate vessels are in the head and neck region. This is precisely why care, skill and an in-depth knowledge of anatomy is crucial when injecting in this region. Even then, we do not have xray vision. So an injector that places safety and is trained in emergency care is of the utmost importance when it comes to injecting your face.

Now this is what we call a masterpiece!
Arterial vascularity of the head and neck that have been preserved through plastination!
The principle by which preservation of the blood vessels is done is pretty straight forward, injection of a solution, more precisely - liquid plastic (or resin). To isolate the vessels, red plasticizer is pumped into the blood vessels of the head and neck. After it sets up, acid is used to dissolve or degrade away the tissue to reveal a skeletal system of capillaries, leaving this master piece of human art.

LIME SCOOTER vs TOOTH

This patient fell of a Lime scooter and chipped his front tooth months ago. An accident in NZ is thankfully covered under ACC. So he came in and had it fixed with a composite filling, shade-matched to blend in, and was done in 20 minutes. No numbing or injections needed!

We can easily fix any minor chips in your teeth - accident 4 or not - without the need for injections. It is SUPER important to check how you bite down on your teeth to ensure these fillings are built up in a way that will withstand your unique jaw movements.

MANUAL

If a manual toothbrush is the way you're going then you've got to make sure that it has SOFT bristles. Anything harder than soft will eventually damage your gums, expose roots and wear away at teeth.

Do charcoal or silicone bristles make a difference? Noteven the slightest.

A 45 degree angle at the gum line and small jiggling + sweeping down motion is the RIGHT way to brush teeth. Ask your dentist/hygienist the next time you're in for a DEMO.

SONIC BRUSH

A sonic toothbrush does NOT have the rotating /oscillating functions so it's SECOND best in the range of toothbrushes. They make less noise than an electric toothbrush but don't rotate and oscilate so aren't as effective. They tend to have small oval, elongated heads so are good if you've got a narrow mouth, have difficulty opening wide or have an active gag reflex. These are usually the ones heavily marketed on social media by the likes of even the Kardashians! 😜

ELECTRIC BRUSH

An electric toothbrush that has a rotating AND oscillating function is the one you want to go for. It is the only kind of brush that has evidence - based research to back up the fact that it is significantly the MOST effective of all the brushes when used right. It does the job for you, brushing teeth, moving the right way yet doing the least damage (most have in - built pressure sensors) . They're great around braces and can also come with timers so you know you're doing the recommended 2 mins of brushing. You DO NOT have to drop mega $$$ on these - oral B has a fantastic one that retails around $30. As long as it has the above functions and is charged by plugging into the wall (not battery powered), you're good to go!
