I was recently a participant in a study exploring why nurses go on to study naturopathy, and the overall results really reflect on my own experience.

The study found that many of us went into nursing because we genuinely wanted to care for people, this was often influenced by our own experiences with healthcare. But over time, like others in the study, I started to feel the limitations of the system, especially when it came to supporting people with chronic, ongoing health issues.

One of the key findings was that nurses are drawn to naturopathy because it offers a more holistic approach, looking at the whole person and focusing on underlying causes, not just symptoms. There was also a strong theme around prevention, education, and helping people better understand their own health, which really resonated with me.

The study also highlighted that personal experience with naturopathy often plays a big role, which was part of my journey too.

I love how being both a registered nurse and a naturopath allows me to bridge that gap. Combining clinical knowledge with a more holistic, individualised approach is something really valuable when supporting people there health concerns.

If you'd like to know how herbal medicine, certain nutrients and lifestyle changes can improve your health then please get in contact.

Could mould exposure be affecting your health?

Many people I see in clinic have been exposed to mould at some point, often from damp homes, water-damaged buildings, or workplaces, without realising how much it may be impacting their health.

Mould exposure doesn’t always cause obvious symptoms. Instead, it can show up as things like fatigue, brain fog, sinus congestion, headaches, allergies, skin irritation, or changes in immune health.

In my latest blog post, I talk about:
• Common symptoms linked to mould exposure
• Simple ways to reduce mould in your home or work environment
• How naturopathic support can help your body manage mould exposure.

If you’re interested in learning more about the effects of mould and how to support your body’s recovery, you can read the full blog post here https://www.thenaturopathicnurse.co.nz/how-a-naturopath-can-help-support-your-body-after-mould-exposure

When people share a range of symptoms and concerns with me, they’re often more connected than they realise.
As a naturopath, I look at the body as a whole, this helps me link symptoms and uncover what’s really going on beneath the surface.

The beauty of holistic care is that when we improve one area, other areas often begin to shift too, positively and naturally.

If you’ve got a few symptoms or just feel like something’s not quite right, and you’d like to take a more natural approach to your health, I’d love to hear from you.

In a world where appointments can feel rushed and symptoms are often treated in isolation, a naturopathic consultation offers something different—time, space, and presence.

I take a deeper look at your story. We talk about your health history, your sleep, your stress, your movement, your food, your medications—your whole picture. And perhaps most importantly, you’re truly heard.

For many people, that in itself is an incredibly validating and empowering experience. It’s not just about the plan we create together—it’s about having someone genuinely listen, without interruption, judgment, or a 5-minute time limit.

If you've been feeling unheard in your health journey, know that it doesn’t have to be that way.

If you’re looking for natural ways to support your health, I’d love to help guide you through those options and support you in making real, lasting changes to how you feel day to day.
