CSKA AUGUST NEWSLETTER 2026

Welcome everyone to August's newsletter,

Words of the month KATA and KUMITE
KATA means to Form, Mold or Model, a pre-arranged detailed sequence of defensive and offensive movements performed solo against imaginary opponents.
KUMITE means Grappling hands or meeting of hands, (kumi meaning to unite/join, and te meaning hand).
Active sparring or tactical training done with a real partner.

NEWSLETTER: The newsletter is put put every month with important information about what events are coming up, Gradings, Tournament, Kickathon etc.
They cover times/dates to be at an event, prices, what to bring, messages from Sensei which are all really important notices for everyone to know. All students make sure you take your newsletter home and pass it onto your parents/caregivers please.

GRADINGS: Wednesday 26th August - Pukekohe Dojo, Peewee's White - Red,
Red - Yellow, White - Yellow. Gradings will be done at your normal time as training.
Saturday 29th August - Pukekohe Dojo, Kyu Grades coloured belts.
Time - Yellow - Orange 8.15 ready to start at 8.30.
If you are grading and you are not to sure of the time to be at the dojo check with your Senpai. TIMES ARE ONLY GUIDELINES AND PLEASE DO NOT BE LATE FOR YOUR GRADING.

MONTHLY FEES: August monthly fees are now due, also if you are grading in August your grading fees must be paid before you grade. If you are not sure of the cost of grading ask your Senior Senpai on training nights. All fees can be paid at the Dojo or online.

TOURNAMENT: The Tournament is coming up fast so this means everyone who is competing should be practicing their individual Kata, teams should be sorted for Team Kata. Turn up for training and train hard, Be Committed in what you do.
Remember the Bo Division is a DAN KATA ONLY, this is with the Long Bo with the exception of Juniors who can use the Short Bo. THERE IS NO TEAM BO, INDIVIDUAL ONLY.
Tournament prices for all Divisions are at your Dojo, please see your Senpai.

Peewee and Junior Disco, dates to be confirmed (November)
Black Belt Grading December, date to be confirmed.
There will be another Newsletter coming out Mid August covering the Tournament.

Thank you to all parent/caregivers for being punctual and picking your child up on time from the Dojo.
Students make sure you bring water to drink and jackets to wear after training, there is a lot of illnesses going around so stay warm.

A note to all students,
there is an order form at the Pukekohe and Waiuku Dojo for anyone that would like to order some gear BEFORE the tournament. Please fill it out before the 1st of August as we need a good amount of time for orders to come through.
For any females that are doing Kumite at the tournament Chest Guards are now compulsory so if you haven't got one you need to order one.
Prices are at the Dojo or ask your Senior Senpai.

Just a reminder,
It is Matariki this weekend (public holiday) so there is NO TRAINING on Friday.
If there is usually training on the Saturday it will be up to the Senior Senpai to tell you and to make the decision whether to train or not. You should be informed on Thursday's training afternoon/night..
If you are going away, safe travels and enjoy your weekend.

CSKA JULY NEWSLETTER
Welcome to July's newsletter.
The words of the month are apart of our Dojo Kun, Seek the perfection of character. What does this mean? Committing to a lifelong journey of Personal, Moral, and Emotional Self Improvement. It is the pursuit of becoming a well rounded, compassionate, and disciplined person.
FIRSTLY: Sensei Ray would like to thank Sue, Sam, Linda, Jess, and James for organising a successful quiz night on the 20th of June.
We have had a lot of positive feed back and the question is will there be another one next year???
Thank you also to Karleen and Jess for the amazing catering of food, again we had people commenting on how lovely it all was and plenty of it.
Congratulations on those who won the great prizes, there were some pretty happy people going home with their winnings.
FEES: If you have not paid your half yearly fees please pay them ASAP as these were to be paid by the 30th of June, these can be paid by paying them into the account or to a Senior Senpai on training nights at the Dojo.
SAFETY: Now winter is on us and it is darker in the evenings we are just reminding all parents/caregivers to be punctual in picking your child up from the Dojo, please DO NOT sit in your cars and wait for your child. The Senpais WILL NOT let any child go unless there is an adult to pick them up from the Dojo.
Remember to bring warm jackets to training to wear when leaving the Dojo, there is a lot of illnesses around so stay warm. Also water bottles, you still have to stay hydrated even in winter especially while training.
No shoes are to be worn into the Dojo these are to be left neatly at the bottom of the stairs, No food, lollies; (especially gum) or fizzy drinks are to be consumed in the Dojo.
Remember neatness and cleanliness is a part of our Dojo Etiquette.

Karate training will still be on over the school holidays, the only days we don't train is Public Holidays.
"REMEMBER " training is hard but what you put in is what you get out, train hard and rewards will follow.

Last night Shotokan Karate held a Quiz night to raise funds for the Dojo which will go towards new or replace training gear for our students.
The night was very successful and the feed back has been awesome, with lots of fun and laughter, great prizes were won.
The night wouldn't of happened without the wonderful support of everybody that brought tickets and supported the quiz night.
But the biggest shout out I would like to do is to all of the fantastic businesses that helped and supported our evening with donations and contributions towards prizes. We have a great community and it is lovely that they feel supporting our young children is important just as much as we do within the way of helping them grow, development and build confidence.

Welcome everyone to June's Newsletter,
The word of the month is SENPAI (pronounced sen-pie) is a Japanese word that translates to "Senior"
In Japanese culture a Senpai generally acts as a mentor and role model to their Kohai (junior or has less experience) and is treated with a certain level of respect.

Congratulations to all Kyu grades and Black belts that passed their gradings.
Sensei Ray and Sensei Denise went down to Waihi Dojo to grade their students in which they passed.
Also Congratulations to Whenuakite students in passing your gradings.
A pleasing result all round.

Monthly fees and HALF YEARLY fees are due now, these can be paid online or to a Senior Senpai on training nights.

It is only just over four months before our Tournament in September.
Everything has been booked and confirmed.
Hopefully some of pur newer students will have the opportunity to compete which will help with future training and help build their confidence when in the Dojo.

Quiz night is on the 20th June at the Pukekohe RSA, from 6.00 - 11.00pm for anyone who would like to stay for a meal or just to relax afterwards, $25.00 per ticket.
