Yin & yang is a fundamental concept in TCM & can be applied to all aspects of health & life - including food. Yin & yang make up the two opposite, yet complementary, forces of our universe & good health depends on the harmonious balance between the two ☯️
Yin foods are cooling, moistening, & good for reducing heat in our body, which is great in summer/spring, for reducing inflammation & preventing dryness 🥑
Yang foods are warming, invigorating, & used to heat up our body, which is great in winter/ autumn, for aiding digestion, & boosting energy🌶️
Neutral foods help to maintain balance without adding excessive heat or cold & can be eaten year round 🌽
Applying these principles may look like eating more raw foods such as salads/ watermelon in warmer months & eating more cooked foods such as soups/ stews in colder months. Or it could be creating meals with a balance of both & observing how your energy feels afterwards.
