The Pasefika Midwifery Student Tapu Ora National fono concluded on Friday with every one's cup full and overflowing.

New connections, great food, laughter, friendly competition, creative energy and self care were all part of the final day.

From creating siapo, sei's, and pale's to having a massage, nails and sharing kava, no one left our conference empty handed.

One of the highlights of the day for me were students from AUT (Mavis and Winfred), OP (Georgia) and Victoria Uni (Aifetina'i) who presented and shared about their Pacific cultures traditional birth practices - Samoan, Tongan, Cook Island and Tokelauan. They were all awesone. Everyone learnt something new and we had the privilege of having Nicole Pihema (Chief Clinical Hauora Māori officer for Te Whatu Ora) and Heather Muriwai (Chief Clinical Officer Maternity for the Ministry of Health) be present for this session.

We also had Kathleen Maki ( District Chief Midwife for Canterbury) and Laura Aileone ( National Chief Midwife for Te Whatu Ora) be with us the day before, all of them sharing some inspiring.and encouraging words to all the students but those who've been around a while too.

I want to thank Jo Purea for doing such a great job bringing this entire event together and the other liaisons Epe, Manning and Mellisa for making it such a success for students to be more connected, engaged, revitalized and just have some fun too.

I swear the photo booth was mainly my students from Wellington! We certainly are not shy of the camera

Malo lava everyone xx

Day 1 of the National Pasefika Midwifery students Fono in Tamaki Makaurau is done.

What an awesome day spent with Pasefika Midwifery students from as far south as Invercargill to the far north. I traveled with 13 students from Wellington and we had to of course take a pic outside KFC in Manukau on our arrival.

Our day started with the Tapu Ora beginnings being shared to where we are now and its been a beautiful journey. Thankyou Nga.

The day.was facilitated by the amazing Jo Purea who is the national lead for Tapu Ora who has worked tirelessly to make this Fono happen, thankyou! The liaisons.from ARA, Wintech, AUT, Vic and OP supporting her..Eoe, .Manning and Mellisa, thankyou

The students have had a full day of good food, making new friends through Va Feiolafani/Whakawhenaugatanga, with the help.of an old church friend Tony Solomona from Newtown PIC days and his team Va Pasefika -. Such a small.world. Being honoured with an 'ava ceremony was also very special.

There was some competitive indoor 'sports' after lunch to keep.us awake and engaged from rhe AUT gym team.

There was alot of laughing going on and some cheating I suspect in some of the activities but this is what connection means through fun.

So great to have my colleague Kizzi from Welly come.and be apart of the gathering to inspire the next generation.

Bring on day 2!!
