Because every tonic I sell starts with individual plants I am able to mix and match exactly what my customers prefer. One of my customers contacted me last night and asked if she could buy my Mood Boost Tonic but without the St John's Wort and in a 100ml bottle instead of a 50ml. Other customers have asked me if they can buy my stress tonic but could I take the Ashwagandha out.

This the beauty of small batch herbal medicine that is not massed produced. I got the request last night and the amended tonic is already on its way.

If you ever want something changed or to purchase in a bigger size, just ask me. I'm happy to help.

Grassroots herbalism tailored to suit you and your needs.

Have you ever felt... Like your mind won't switch off, emotionally drained, overwhelmed by everyday stress, like you've lost your spark and are in a dark hole you just can't get out of?

Thats been me this last week. I hurt my back very badly last weekend and I haven't been able to move or even dress myself. I ended up feeling very sorry for myself and spiraled down into a dark hole. I don't know if all herbalists are like me, but I often don't take what I know I could to help. Yesterday, when I couldnโ€™t take it anymore, I reached for my mood boost, and two hours later I felt so much better. And thats the beauty of this tonic, St Johnโ€™s Wort takes a while to get going, but the rest of the herbs start working immediately. The combo makes it such a great formula. And many of the herbs have pain reducing properties as well.

Its funny how once my dark mood had lifted, I didn't feel so bad about being unable to move. I started to be able to look at what l could learn from all of this. I realised I can't do everything all at once, because I do have a disability, and I realised why I push myself so hard. Because I feel I have something to prove. What I realised from not being able to move, is that I don't have to prove myself to anyone, and that all this had happened so I could finally let go of a version of myself that did feel that need. Instead I can choose to make loving choices for myself that don't involve working extremely long hours, 7 days a week. When I was in the darkness, I couldn't see any of that. And these are the gifts that plant allies bring us - they give us space, a gap, its like the light can seep through that gap, so that we can finally see more clearly. And I did, and I will always be grateful for the gifts the plants gave me that day.

Well, today, I can finally walk and move again, thank goodness. Just in time for the weekends markets.

I would love to see you at one of them

Bee Pollen is making a bit of a comeback. I remember about 30 years ago it was a real craze, and then it quietly slipped away as the 'next big thing' came around. Lately bee pollen has slipped back into the spotlight, and I believe its for good reasons. It is a highly bioavailable, 100% natural superfood.

Now, anyone that knows me, knows I don't take supplements. I don't like them. Made by machines, compressed into tablets, synthetic vitamins....... its just not something I believe in. So if I think I may be deficient in something I normally turn to wholefood powders. But most of them are not 100% complete with everything the body needs. And this is where bee pollen steps in.

I have just bought myself a packet of bee pollen. And I'm very excited about it. It really is natures superfood. And no, I don't sell it, but I thought it may be something to share about, because it truly is an amazing whole food. So I looked into bee pollen, how the bees make it and how we harvest it, just to make sure the bees are ok. So.... all about bee pollen ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

Bee pollen is a mixture of flower pollen, nectar and bee enzymes, collected by the bees as they forage from flower to flower. As bees visit blossoms, pollen grains cling to the fine hairs covering their bodies, and then the bees groom the pollen into specialised baskets on their hind legs (known as corbiculae), mixing it up with nectar and natural enzymes to form small pellets. Upon returning to the hive, beekeepers use specially designed pollen traps that gently remove a portion of these pellets as the bees enter, while leaving sufficient pollen for the colony's own nutritional needs. Thank goodness, I did wonder if taking all the pollen could hurt the bees.

Bee pollen is regarded as one of nature's most nutrient-dense foods. It contains:

๐Ÿ complete protein, providing all nine essential amino acids: leucine, isoleucine, valine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine, tryptophan and histidine, along with non-essential amino acids including arginine, alanine, glycine, glutamic acid, aspartic acid, serine, proline, tyrosine and cysteine.

๐Ÿ a broad spectrum of vitamins including provitamin A (beta-carotene), vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, vitamin K, thiamine (B1), riboflavin (B2), niacin (B3), pantothenic acid (B5), vitamin B6, biotin (B7) and folate (B9).

๐Ÿ mineral content including potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, zinc, copper, manganese, selenium, chromium, molybdenum and small amounts of sodium.

๐Ÿ beneficial fats including omega-3 fatty acids, omega-6 fatty acids, oleic acid, linoleic acid and palmitic acid

๐Ÿdietary fibre, glucose, fructose, organic acids, lecithin, phytosterols (including beta-sitosterol), trace amounts of coenzyme Q10, and naturally occurring nucleic acids (DNA and RNA fragments).

๐Ÿ antioxidant phytonutrients including quercetin, kaempferol, rutin, isorhamnetin, luteolin, apigenin, catechins, chlorogenic acid, caffeic acid, ferulic acid, gallic acid, beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein and zeaxanthin.

๐Ÿ enzymes - amylase, invertase, phosphatase, catalase and superoxide dismutase (SOD), which are added by the bees during pollen collection or occur naturally within the pollen itself.

It must be said though, that the exact nutritional profile of bee pollen varies according to the flowers visited by the bees, where the bees live and the season in which it is harvested, making each batch a unique reflection of its botanical origin. But I'm excited to take my first dose and I feel it takes the guess work out of the question 'what might I be deficient in?'

The people that can't or shouldn't take bee pollen are those with allergies to bees or flower pollen. But for the rest of us - its very cost effective and 100% made by nature. It says on the packet I bought to take 1 to 2 tsps but I am starting with a ยผ a teaspoon and I will see where I go from there.

Digestion and elimination imbalances can be at the root of many of our health issues and a healthy digestive system can be considered to be the foundation of all health. The role of a healthy intestinal flora is also essential. For probiotic life to flourish we need to look at what we eat, our liver, gallbladder and bile, fiber intake and stress.

One of the things I love about what I do is the fact that people feel free to message me when they need help. You can message me through my website chat box or there is also a contact form.

I love what I do and I love to be in service so that we can all start heading in the right direction together. Towards health.

I will be at the Bay of Islands Farmers Market tomorrow in Kerikeri if you want to meet me and chat herbs and helath.

With love

Meet Motherwort, the herbal ally thats cared for hearts for centuries.

Despite her name, Motherwort isn't just for mothers.

Traditionally used by herbalists as a calming heart tonic, this remarkable herb has long been valued to support the heart during times of stress, nervous tension, and emotional overwhelm.

Modern research is beginning to explain why. Studies suggest Motherwort contains compounds that may:
๐ŸŒฟ Support healthy heart rhythm
๐ŸŒฟ Promote healthy circulation and blood vessel function
๐ŸŒฟ Help protect heart cells from oxidative stress
๐ŸŒฟ Calm the nervous system and ease stress-related tension

Shes also been traditionally used to support menstrual wellbeing, menopause, and emotional balance.

Sometimes the best support for the heart isn't just physical, it starts with helping the whole person feel calmer and more grounded.

Motherwort has earned her place as one of herbal medicine's most treasured heart herbs ๐Ÿฉท

She could be classed as one of the most nourishing plants in our natural world ๐Ÿฉท
