Three women walk into our clinic last month.
One is exhausted, freezing, constipated, and gaining weight.. and she’s been told her labs are “normal.”
One has been on thyroid medication for years and still doesn’t feel like herself.
One has never once been told why her thyroid stopped producing enough hormone in the first place.
Different women. Different stories. Same incomplete explanation:
“Your thyroid is sluggish. Take this pill. We’ll check your TSH again next year.”
Hear us out — we’re not saying thyroid medication is bad. For many people it’s exactly the right treatment.
We’re saying a TSH number was never designed to be the whole story. It doesn’t tell you if your immune system is attacking the gland. It doesn’t tell you why the thyroid slowed down to begin with.
Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland at the base of your neck. She may be little, but she is mighty — she sets the pace for your energy, temperature, heart rate, digestion, mood, cycle, fertility, skin, hair, and cholesterol.
She’s your metabolic pacemaker. When she slows, the body doesn’t stop — it just turns the dial down. Digestion slows into constipation. Energy slows into exhaustion. Skin dries out. Hair thins.
A lab range was never meant to be the whole story.
