These are our debate teams. who've taken part in the Interdivisional Debate Competition at the school. Our team gave a good challenge to MSA, competing with constructive arguments, backed up with substantial data that support every claim that we presented. 💜

The preparation phase was intense. The students themselves get to push to their limits, in order to give a good challenge to our opponents. 💪🔥

Every investment and contribution was worth it, as our team secured the second placing with 63.6points while MSA came out victorious with 64.3points. 🙌

The debate was pure test of our intellectual capacity, and it opened doors for some of our students who never had the opportunity to debate in their career. 💜 The opportunity helped them to understand their potential and refine their skills to become better in the future.

Our students continue to show competitiveness in both academics and extracurricular activities, depicting a bright future for our pharmacist in the coming years.💜

Our aim is the equip our students with necessary skills that is not taught academically. The students to build their skills and become effective when entering workforce. we stand firm with our aim and continue to work in achieving them.

Our students took part in the Interdivisional Sports Competition hosted at the school. The sports was competitive and intense, where students from all disciples come together to showcase their skills and play in a friendly way. 💜

Amongst all the competitive teams, PSSPNG came out victorious with 3 throphies, securing the first placing for Soccer, Volleyball and Rugby Touch. 🥳This achievement shows the true commitment that students showed in extra Curricular activities. 💜

Our students continue to perform in both sports and leadership. showing their capabilities in balancing academic studies and their involvement in extra Curricular activities. 🔥🙌💜

A special acknowledgement to the students who've given their best in securing three throphies and come out as the overall winner of the competition. You are all champions 💪💯

The society will be hosting our first workshop for 2026 on the 20th of June, 2026. It will be a one day training on CV and Cover letter writing. This training is to equip our affiliated students with skills on how to write effective CVs for future opportunities. It will be facilitated by Phyonna Silikara, the lead trainer at Signature Purple. She travels around to facilitate such trainings in different parts of Papua New Guinea. Her wealth of experience will equip the students well in writing effective CV and Cover letter.

The workshop is proudly sponsored by PNG Women Business Resource Centre (PNG WBRC). A NGO that supports women in business, and host informative sessions on how to start, and manage small medium enterprise (SMEs).

Registered/affiliated PSSPNG members will be allowed to attend freely, but Unregistered/unaffiliated PSSPNG members will be asked to pay K10. The Executives will be at the registration booth to confirm every participants.

This workshop is open to everyone, including your friends in other disciplines, as well as the general student body of University of Papua New Guinea. You can register with K10 to be part of the workshop. It is open to our residency students as well, if they are willing to be part of it.

Late registration after June 15 is K15.

Today, the 21st of May, 2026. We had a visit from the President of the Pharmacy Guild of Australia and the National Secretariat of the Board accompanied by the CEO of ChemCare Limited. They visited our pharmacy lab and had a meaningful dialouge with Professor Lauwo and the students who presented during the visit about the facilities we use for lectures, tutorials, and practicals and overall delivery of Pharmacy education at SMHS. Most importantly the Curriculum design.

In his review, the President said our lab needs an upgrade or in essence, a new one built for Pharmacy students alone.

He also spoke about some great opportunities for us as Pharmacy students, including:
- Funding for student exchange programs
- Financial Support to attend international pharmacy conferences that happen every year
- Most importantly, hopefully funding for our new lab 🤩.

We were really honored to have them with us.

I’m also excited to share that they’ve arranged a dinner at the Hilton Hotel this evening. They’ve invited PSSPNG President Jeremiah Elizah and Prof. Lauwo to continue the discussion about the future of our program.

This is a very good exposure for the program and an opportunity to discuss and integrate updated pharmacy curriculum with advance facilities that will help alleviate disease burden in the future through equiping students with orthodox knowledge and learn skills that matches the rapid increases in science and technology.

The society will continue to work closely with National Australian Pharmaceutical Students Association (NAPSA) and establish networks that will benefits the program and students in PNG into the future. 🙌🔥

Congratulations to Dr. Martha Wakem Yahimbu, the newest Fulbright Visiting Scholar who will conduct advanced research in the University of Utah!

This week Charge Affairs Alex Berenberg congratulated Dr. Yahimbu ahead of her travels to the United States, where her research will be centered on investigation of the efficacy of old and new antibacterial agents and combinations against resistant bacteria. Antimicrobial resistance to drugs is a serious threat to human health. Her advanced research has the potential to improve how drugs treat infections in the U.S. and PNG.

Dr. Yahimbu’s participation in the Fulbright visiting scholars' program shows how Papua New Guineans can conduct advanced research in the United States to benefit the worldwide scientific community, while collaborating with other experts in their field!

Today, the 7th of May, 2026. The students had an opportunity to travel down to Area Medical Store (AMS), in order to have early exposure on what is done in AMS, and what are the key roles that Pharmacists play in order to maintain consistent drug flow in the country through the m-supply system. 🙌

This visit was the first event for the society to get students involved in initiatives that would keep them grounded in their studies and make them aware about the wide range of opportunities that are available for pharmacist in the country, not just at the dispensary but administrative and managerial roles that they need to be aware while in school in order to be competitive when they enter work force. 📍

We had our year 2, 3s and 4s, for this visit, and they truly learned a lot from the AMs coordinator. Our year 5s normally visit every Tuesday, for their blocks.

On behalf of the society, I would like to thank Mr. Bibi Miere who is the AMS coordinator for Southern Region, for your guidance and help, touring the area with the students, they truly learnt a lot from your explanation and we hope to maintain this visit every year to the AMS.

A special thank you to the NDoH Office, the National Department of Health for granting our request to do this visit. It helps us understand the important function of AMS and appreciate the work our government of the day is doing. 🙌

We hope to maintain this visit for the remaining years to come so our students can have early exposures while they are still in their year 2s. 📍

It was a proud moment for the society and pharmacy discipline, as one of our graduate received the inaugural prestigious Vice Chancellors Awards in Leadership. The award was presented to Edwilyn Dreyer, a well spoken leader that has portrayed exceptional leadership skills during her studies in the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, University of Papua New Guinea🙌🔥.

she served as the Female School Rep for SMHS in 2025, and under her leadership, significant changes had happened in the school, and significant achievements have truly contributed to her success as the awardee. 📍🔥

In 2024, she served as the President of the Society (PSSPNG), and in her tenure, she truly contributed meaningfully as evident in the International Pharmaceutical Students Federation (IPSF) successful affiliation, now the society has international connection and have access to opportunities abroad, to Futher their studies, particularly in the field of pharmacy. 📍

These experiences have shaped her to be a better person, and a better leader that can lead with transparency and accountability without fear or favour. 🔥

On behalf of the society and the school of Medicine and Health Sciences, I would like to congratulate you, Ms. Edwilyn Dreyer, for this achievement. It is your commitment that has reaped the results. Continue to provide leadership in the workforce that you will be part of and shape the policies of our country to make sure it is beneficial for our people and the country.🙌
