NSPH Obstetrics & Gynaecology Department conducted an interesting Case Presentation on April 30, 2026, at the NSPH Conference Room, featuring a compelling and educational discussion titled The activity brought together medical professionals from various departments of Northern Samar Provincial Hospital, fostering interdisciplinary learning and collaboration.
The case was presented by Amabel Diane C. Bido, MD, who delivered a comprehensive discussion of a high-risk obstetric case involving a 33-year-old gravida 5 patient at 35 weeks of gestation, complicated by underlying cardiac disease. The presentation highlighted the patientโs clinical course, including symptoms of progressive shortness of breath, diagnostic findings consistent with rheumatic heart disease, and the eventual management of congestive heart failure in the setting of pregnancy. The complexity of balancing maternal cardiac stability and fetal well-being was emphasized throughout the discussion.
Serving as resource speaker, Dr. Rolando P. Romance, MD, FPCC, FPCC I, provided expert insights into the cardiovascular aspects of the case, elaborating on the pathophysiology of gravidocardiac conditions and the importance of a multidisciplinary approach in managing such high-risk pregnancies. His discussion reinforced evidence-based practices and clinical decision-making in similar scenarios.
The activity was graced by key hospital officials, including Dr. Christine L. Estanislao, MD, FPGOS, Head of the OB-Gyne Department; Dr. Elizabeth N. Nochete, MD, FPGOS, MMHOA, Chief of Clinics; and Dr. Joseph A. Estanislao, MD, MBAH, Chief of Hospital. Their presence underscored the institutionโs commitment to continuous professional development and quality patient care.
The case presentation concluded with an engaging open forum, where attending physicians actively participated in discussions, shared perspectives, and clarified clinical considerations. The event served as a valuable platform for enhancing clinical knowledge, particularly in managing rare and complex conditions such as gravidocardiac cases.
This intercollaborative learning initiative is set to continue in the coming months, with upcoming case presentations from the Departments of Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Surgery, and other specialties.
