The Rafael Lazatin Memorial Medical Center (RLMMC) Hospital Blood Bank is a licensed and fully operational unit that plays a critical role in ensuring safe, timely, and adequate blood supply for patients of the medical center. As an integral support service of the hospital, the Blood Bank adheres strictly to national standards and regulatory requirements to guarantee the quality and safety of all

blood and blood components issued for transfusion. Beyond its primary function of blood collection, screening, storage, and distribution, the RLMMC Hospital Blood Bank performs additional essential functions that strengthen patient care and public health services. These include comprehensive donor screening and counseling, blood typing and compatibility testing, transfusion-transmitted infection (TTI) screening, and strict quality assurance and documentation practices. In addition, the RLMMC Hospital Blood Bank actively collaborates with hospital departments and partner institutions in promoting voluntary blood donation, conducting donor education, and supporting community-based blood donation drives. It also serves as a training area for laboratory personnel and healthcare workers, reinforcing competence in transfusion medicine and laboratory safety. Through its expanded functions and commitment to regulatory compliance, efficiency, and ethical practice, the RLMMC Hospital Blood Bank remains a vital pillar of the hospital’s mission—ensuring safe blood for every patient, at the right time, and for the right indication.
