🚨 NOTICE TO ALL CEBUANOS: KANLAON VOLCANO UPDATE & ASHFALL ADVISORY 🚨

Following the sudden activity of Kanlaon Volcano this morning, residents in Cebu City are advised to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions, as ash plumes from the eruption can be carried by wind patterns towards neighbouring islands, including parts of Cebu.

Here is the official advisory from the authorities:

𝗞𝗔𝗡𝗟𝗔𝗢𝗡 𝗩𝗢𝗟𝗖𝗔𝗡𝗢 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘: The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS-DOST) maintained Alert Level 2 status over Kanlaon Volcano and warned that entry into the 4-kilometer-radius Permanent Danger Zone is strictly prohibited.

This came after a moderately explosive eruption at the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano occurred at 07:33 AM today, July 9, which lasted for three minutes.

😷 Health and Safety Reminders for Cebu City Residents
Because volcanic ash contains fine particles that can irritate the eyes, skin, and respiratory system, please observe the following safety measures:

Wear Protection: Use an N95 mask or a damp cloth over your nose and mouth if you need to step outside. Protect your eyes with glasses instead of contact lenses.

Stay Indoors: Keep children, the elderly, pregnant individuals, and those with pre-existing respiratory conditions (like asthma or COPD) safely inside.

Seal Your Home: Close all doors and windows to prevent fine ash from drifting indoors.

Food and Water Safety: Keep all drinking water containers and food supplies tightly covered. Thoroughly wash any fruits and vegetables before consuming them.

Drive with Extreme Caution: Ashfall can significantly reduce visibility and make roads slick or slippery. Reduce your speed and keep your headlights turned on.

Protect Your Pets: Bring your pets indoors and ensure their food and water bowls are completely covered and free from ash.
