Earlier today, during the 25th Cebu City SK Federation General Assembly, the Sugbo Cup Committee and Sayaw Kabataan Committee formally announced the official cancellation of Sugbo Cup 2026 and Sayaw Kabataan 2026.
The committees sincerely extend their appreciation to all the youth, athletes, participants, coaches, supporters, and partners who have shown enthusiasm and support for these activities.
The cancellation is due to budgetary challenges, as the proposed funding for both activities depends on the โฑ1.5 million financial subsidy allocated to each of Cebu Cityโs 80 barangays. As of this time, the said subsidy remains subject to the necessary approval and processing. Consequently, the committees are unable to confirm the availability of the funds necessary for the implementation of this yearโs activities.
We understand and recognize the disappointment this announcement may bring, especially to the players and supporters who have been preparing and looking forward to the competitions. We sincerely thank everyone for their patience, understanding, and continued support.
The cancellation of this yearโs activities does not signify the end of Sugbo Cup and Sayaw Kabataan. We remain hopeful that these programs may continue in the future and that opportunities for meaningful youth activities can be pursued again in the coming year.
We also extend our sincere gratitude to our partner institution, University of the Philippines Cebu (UP Cebu), for its support, cooperation, and consideration during the preparations for Sugbo Cup 2026. We deeply appreciate your commitment and willingness to support youth programs.
To all the players, coaches, volunteers, supporters, and partner organizations, thank you for your understanding and for believing in these city-wide sk programs. We look forward to serving the youth and creating more opportunities for them in the future.
