When stress becomes chronic, the body can feel it.
Chronic stress doesn’t stay only in the mind. Prolonged activation of the stress response can affect the nervous, hormonal, and immune systems and contribute to increased inflammatory signaling.
For some people, this may show up as anxiety or depressive symptoms. For others, it may heighten pain sensitivity or contribute to persistent pain. And because pain and emotional distress can themselves increase stress, a difficult cycle may develop.
This is why caring for chronic pain may require looking beyond the painful area alone. Mind, brain, nervous system, immune response, and body are interconnected.
At DrMaggie, we look at the person as a whole—not just the symptom.
